Manual
1 General
The EKU is a motor control unit which can be used, for example, to
control a motor for air inlet flaps.
The control unit has an automatic mode and a manual mode. In the
automatic mode the EKU receives the desired position from the
main controller by means a 0-10V signal (for example from an Orion
or a Sirius).
The control unit has an alarm relay which can be included into an
alarm circuit.
2 Operation
IMPORTANT!
• The manual mode doesn’t include a switch delay. Shortly keep the switch in the stop position, before
switching over to the other running direction (manual control). This prevents a motor runs further in
the original direction.
• When a time controlled drive is being operated manually, the actual flap position doesn’t meet the
maintained flap position in the EKU. Put back the flap in the demanded position (by the main
controller) before switching back the EKU to the automatic mode. Alternatively you can interrupt the
power to the EKU to start synchronization.
3 Diagnostics
The LEDs nearby the operating buttons of the circuit board show the status of the EKU.

4 Adjusting procedure
IMPORTANT!
• When appears that the motor runs in the wrong direction you have to switch the connection open and
close. Then always check if the limit switches still do their job correctly.
• Read Chapter 3 for status reports and problem solving.
• You can apply a 0-10V as well as a 10-0V control signal. If you want to apply an emergency position,
the control signals for fully open and fully close must both be above 1 V (see also Chapter 4.2).
• If you want to control flaps in different zones by giving each EKU a different control range, the main
controller signals for fully open and fully close must both be above 1 V. This prevents unwanted
alarming when the control signal drops under 1 V.
Example EKU no. 1 from 1 - 10 V and EKU no. 2 from 4 - 10 V. The main controller signal is 1 - 10V.
Defining:
1. Set the mode switch to auto.
2. Set the dipswitch:

3. Press auto during 5 seconds. Now the light at open blinks ( ). The first limit position can
be defined now.
4. Adjust the control of the main computer so that the output signal is maximal (100%).
Now the EKU measures a control signal corresponding to the maximum flap position.
5. Press open continuously. The motor runs until the limit position OPEN has been reached (the limit
switch has to be tripped).

Manual EKU - Adjusting procedure
Note
• Press during running the auto key shortly. Now the motor runs automatically, without any key
pressed, until you press the open or close key.
• The motor will stop 0,2 V before a 10 kΩ potentiometer has reached its end. This will prevent the
potentiometer from being broken. Still the motor can be controlled manually by using the open or
close buttons).
6. Press the auto key to save the limit position. The light at auto starts blinking ( ). The
lights at open and close are off.
7. Adjust the control of the main computer so that the output signal is minimal (0%).
Now the EKU measures a control signal corresponding to the minimum flap position. When the
control signal differs more than 2V the light at close starts blinking (the light at auto is off now).
8. Press close continuously. The motor runs until the limit position CLOSE has been reached (the
limit switch has to be tripped).
When both control signals for fully open and fully close are above 1 V and the control signal drops
(= 0 V), the EKU drives the motor to the emergency position, but only when the emergency positions is
adjusted. Adjusting the emergency position:
1. Prepare the main computer so the motor runs to the desired emergency position (the limit positions
must already be defined, Chapter 4.1).
2. Press the open key and close key during at least 5 seconds. The LEDs at open and
close are blinking now ( ).
3. Press the auto key to save the emergency position.
Note
• When the emergency position is not set and the control signal fails, the air inlet motor will not change
its position.
• You can remove the saved emergency position by switching off the power supply after pressing the
open and close keys.

Adjusting procedure - Manual EKU
In case of time control, after a while the actual position can slightly deviate from the requested position.
To correct this deviation, the EKU and the motor should be synchronized regularly. Synchronization
means that the motor will be driven fully open or fully close during 1.2 times the running time. The
direction depends on the actual (requested) position.
Synchronization delay
To prevent simultaneous synchronization of two motors in one system you are able to set a
synchronization delay. Set the synchronization delay at one EKU. The delay time is twice the running time
of the motor. See Chapter 4.4 for further instructions.
When time control is set (dipswitch 3), you are able to set the synchronization interval and the
synchronization delay.

IMPORTANT!
• Connect the motor according to the instructions of the manufacturer. Always use a suited overload
protection. The motor must have functional limit switches.
• Connect the potmeter by means of a shielded cable. It doesn’t matter whether the voltage rises or
lowers during opening. The stroke of the potmeter should be 20% at least (= 1 volt). The minimal
difference for a 4 - 20 mA is 4 mA.
• The alarm relay is a dead relay contact that can be included into an alarm circuit.
• The desired air inlet position is defined by means of a 0-10V / 10-0V signal (for example by means of
an Orion or a Sirius). Apply a shielded cable.
