ASSESSMENT
SPREADSHEETS AND CALCULATIONS IN EXCEL
INSTRUCTIONS

A particular school allows grade 9’s to only enrol for 8


subjects per learner. Mr Naicker, a parent of Joy Naicker has
requested your expertise in MS Excel to help him track his
son’s marks in every subject as well as his report mark.

Open the workbook named ‘Test1_JoyNaicker’ provided by


your teacher.You will locate it in Class Notebook in the Test
section on a page called Test instructions

In the spreadsheet:
Test 1, Test 2 and Test 3 make up the learner’s Term 1 mark
for each subject. The mark for each test is a mark out of 30.

Answer the questions that follow. The total mark for this test
is 60 marks.
QUESTIONS

1. In cell D12 add the label ‘Report Average’ (3)


2. In cell E1 add the label ‘Term 1 Mark’ (3)
3. In cell F1 add the label ‘Term 1 Average’ (3)
4. In cell D5 add the number 25 (3)
5. In cell C9 add the number 14 (3)
6. In cell E2 write a formula to calculate Joy’s Term 1 mark for Math. That
is, add test 1, test 2 and test 3 marks for math. (3)
7. In cell E4 write a formula to calculate Joy’s Term 1 mark for Afrikaans.
That is, add test 1, test 2 and test 3 marks for Afrikaans. (3)
8. In cell E5 write a formula to calculate Joy’s Term 1 mark for
Accounting. That is, add test 1, test 2 and test 3 marks for
Accounting.(3)
9. In cell E7 write a formula to calculate Joy’s Term 1 mark for Life
Orientation. That is, add test 1, test 2 and test 3 marks for LO. (3)
10. In cell E8 write a formula to calculate Joy’s Term 1 mark for Social
Science. That is, add test 1, test 2 and test 3 marks for Social
Science.(3)
QUESTIONS

11. It turns out Ms Tavares, Joy’s accounting teacher made a mistake on his
test 3 mark. It turns out he was absent on the day of the test. Change
the number in D7 to zero. (3)
12. In cell F3 write a formula to calculate the term average for English. (3)
13. In cell F4 write a formula to calculate the term average for Afrikaans.(3)
14. In cell F6 write a formula to calculate the term average for Business.(3)
15. In cell F8 write a formula to calculate the term average for Social
Science. (3)
16. In cell E12 write a formula to add all term marks of each subject(3)
17. In cell F12 write a formula to calculate Joy’s term average. (use the value
in E12) (3)
18. In cell J1, write a formula to subtract the value in E7 from the value in
E12 (3)
19. In cell K1, write a formula to divide the value in F5 by the value in F2 (3)
20. In cell L1 write a formula to multiply the value in E12 by 0.25 (3)
