4. A particle projected at an angle of Ø to horizontal axis with an initial velocity of 61m/s hits
the target located at 600m below the horizontal axis and having the inclined slope of 3/4
downward from the axis of to the target. Find the projected angle Ø and the maximum
height achieved by particle from the target.
5. A helicopter is flying with a constant horizontal velocity of 180 km/hr and is directly
above point A when a loose part begins to fall. The part lands 6.5 s later at point B on an
inclined surface. Determine (a) the distance d between points A and B. (b) the initial height
h
6. Define dependent motion of particles and deduce the expression for position, velocity and
acceleration of two particles which are under dependent motion. Rotation of an arm about
‘O’ is defined by Ɵ=0.75t2 where Ɵ is in radians and t is in seconds. Collar B slides along
the arm such that r=1-0.3t2 where r is in meters. After the arm has rotated through 45°,
determine a) the total velocity of the collar b) the total acceleration of the collar c) the
relative acceleration of the collar with respect to the arm.
7. A nozzle discharges a stream of water in direction as shown in figure with initial velocity
of 25m/sec. Determine the radius of curvature of the stream (i) as it leaves the nozzle (ii)
at the maximum height of the stream.
8. The acceleration of the particle is defined by the relation a=kt-4. Knowing that v=4m/s
when t=2 sec, and v=-1m/s when t=1s, Determine the value of constant k and write the
equation of motion when x=0 at t=3 sec.
9. Define Kinetics and Kinematics of a particle. Define average and instantaneous velocity.
Two cars A and E travel along the same straight route. At any time, t their distance x a and
xe. from the starting point are given by:
xa=2.5t+1.2t2
xe =3t2 -0.5t3
Where t in seconds and xa and xe. are in meters. a) Which car is ahead just after they leave
the straight point? b) At what time are the cars at the same point? c) At what time is the
distance between A and E neither in neither increasing nor decreasing? d) At what time do A
and E have same acceleration?
10. Define the uniformly rectilinear motion and the uniformly accelerated rectilinear motion.
Explain about relative motion of particle with example. A projectile is fired from position
A with an initial velocity of 200 m/sec at a target B on right located 500m above position
A. The horizontal distance between A and B is 3000 m. Determine the firing angle
neglecting air resistance.
11. A ball is tossed with velocity of 10 m/s directed vertically upward from a window located
20 m above the ground. Knowing that the acceleration of the ball is constant and equal to
g=9.8m/s2 downward, determine: i) The velocity 'v' and the elevation 'y' of the ball above
the ground at any time 't'' ii) The highest elevation reached by the ball and the
corresponding value of 't'. iii) The time when the ball will hit the ground and the
corresponding velocity.
12. A golfer hits a golf ball with an initial velocity of 50 m/s at an angle of 25º with the
horizontal. Knowing that the fairway slopes downward at an average angle of 5º,
determine the distance d between the golfer and point B where the ball first lands.
