1.2) What is the point estimate for the true population mean of their expenditure in Hong Kong?
Please show the formula and calculation procedure. (2 marks)
1.3) a) Develop a 90% confidence interval for the true population mean of their expenditure in
Hong Kong? Please show the formula and calculation procedure. (8 marks)
b) One survey claimed that the average expenditure for those tourists from China is $18,000.
Based on your answer in (1.3a) do you believe it? Explain your answer. (2 marks)
1.4) Suppose the researcher wants to carry out the similar survey next year, how large a sample should the
researcher take so that the estimate is within $1,500 of the population mean at a 99% confidence
interval? Please show the formula and calculation procedure. (6 marks)
1.5) a) At the 0.05 significance level, conduct a one – sample t test to check whether it is
reasonable to conclude that the mean expenditure for those tourists from China is less than $13,000?
Use five-steps hypothesis testing procedure to answer this question.
Please show the formula and calculation procedure. (12 marks)
b) At the 0.05 significance level, complete the following SPSS output table. (6 marks)
