ModiNama: 100 Days of Glory Hits and Misses of

Modi Government
Hello friends! It has been a great year for the Indians and we had gone through many ups and
downs in this year so far. Politically, the same had occurred. One of the world’s largest
democratic nations went through the polls and had chosen NDA (BJP + alliances) to start their
service towards the country. And, this is the rarest case that a party without its alliances wins
more than the required. BJP had shown this to the world. Narendra Modi became the Prime
Minister of India and have a brought of lot of change in the nation.
On September 2nd the Modi government completed 100days. Modi and the council of ministers
took oath on 26th May 2014; 10 days after the verdict of elections 2014 were announced.
This period can be termed as a mix of both good and bad. The news hunger media ,along with
the oppositions wait for every moment for the ” Modi report card” , but the NDA with much
courage took all their bullies in a very positive note.
To give a brief start, it can be said that changes have taken place definitely, but in a lighter
note. This delay is because as of now the prime focus of the Modi government is to patch up the
damage the previous UPA government has done in its 10 years of rule. Even though the
developments are slow paced, they are worth to be stated.
This in fact is a very high responsibility on the shoulders of the government, especially Modi
ji, because after the debacle of the UPA government, people consider NDA , in particular
Mr.Modi as their ray of hope. When there is hope, definitely expectations do arise. Reaching
such high expectations is indeed a very difficult task ahead. Reviewing these 100 days we can
state that the Modi government is on a right track, it is trying to give a route map for India’s
development.
Some of his principles like ‘Minimum government, maximum governance’ has gone well
with the citizens. A major drift in work culture of the ministries can be noted. He has build up a
sense of pressure on the ministers to fulfill the expectations of the people.

SOME ACCLODABLE FEATURES:

1. BATTLE AGAINST BLACK MONEY:
The first thing he acted upon after taking over the prime ministership, was battle against black
money .He took this stint action with the help of SPECIAL INVESTIGATION TEAM (SIT).
2. JAN DHAN YOJANA:
He put in to light the need of bank account for every individual, with the help of pradhan manthri
jan dhan yojana. This mainly was emphasized on the rural areas of the country.
3. INFLATION:
By delisting fruits and vegetables from agriculture process marketing committee (APMC Act),
there by protecting the farmers and preventing hoarding. This measure brought the inflation
under control. Due to this the economic development also became considerable . In fact the GDP
rate from April to June was the highest in comparison to the last 9 quarters.
4. INFRASTRUCTURE:
Major chunk of large scale investments were made after proper review of SEZ( special economic
zones), stream like Deen Dayal Upadhyaya gram yojana were aimed at improving the rural
infrastructure.
5. ABOLISHMENT OF GOM AND EGOM’S:
The abolishment of gom( group of ministers ) and egom’s (empowered group of ministers)
helped in fast decision making without prolonged discussions within the cabinet.
6. CHANGES TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION:
The Modi government is planning to disband the existing planning commission and replace it
with an improved one, which will keep India’s needs in view and the global scenario as well.
7. REMOVAL OF DYSFUNCTIONING LAWS:
To every one’s astonishment our country still has laws which were established during the
colonial rule. The Modi government is trying to weed out such dysfunctional laws.
These are some major points to be reviewed. Apart from that his government came forward in
issues like recasting judicial appointment, developing international relations, dealing with
sensitive issues of Kashmir, common agenda of growth for all parts of nation e.t.c.,
In a concluding note, we can say that 100 days are too short to judge a government. But as they
say “where there is a will, there is a way” , let’s hope the NDA would work with same zeal and
enthusiasm for the betterment of the country.

Third Bi-Monthly Monetary Policy 2014-15

Highlights
Hello my dear future bankers! We know that SBI clerical cadre exam hasn’t been scheduled
from the last and this week. The next phase of exam will start from 16th of august and will end on
31st. People who have exam on 16th must be revising at full force. The level of the exam is
increasing day by day and you have to put some more extra efforts so that you can write your
exam without any hiccups and settle in a job you are fond of. The Reserve Bank of India, apex
court of the country, has released its third Bi-monthly monetary policy review on 5 th August,
2014. The second bi-monthly policy was released on 3 rd June, 2014. Here are the highlights of
the 3rd bi-monthly review:
The RBI has kept the policy repo rate unchanged and steady for the third time in a row. Instead,
there will be cut in the portion of deposits that bank must hold in government securities by 50
basis points to increase the money in the banking system. The governor of RBI, Raghuram G
Rajan, had released the policy review statement at the RBI on Tuesday. The Guv also hinted that
for now there will be no decrease in the loan rates and it can be expected next year only.
Raghuram Rajan, after taking oath as the governor of RBI in September, 2013, have decreased
the Statutory Liquidity Ratio (SLR) for the second time to 22%, which will be effective from the
begin of the next fortnight i.e., from 9th August, 2014. The SLR to be (22%) is the lowest SLR
our country has seen since Independence.

Let us have a look at what the Governor of the RBI had to say on different issues which are hot
cakes now:
On inflation: The RBI Guv is keen at decreasing the inflation rates. They have estimated
the inflation to be at or below 8% by January 2015 and are keen to bring it down further to 6%
by January 2016. Though RBI hasn’t altered the rates, Rajan has pointed that if there will be a
situation to cut them, will definitely proceed to alter them.
On improving fundamentals: The RBI has pegged the GDP growth rate for the
current fiscal at 5.5%, which is in the range of the projected rate 5-6% in April. The governor has
also pointed that, there is a significant decrease in the Current Account Deficit (CAD), which
was 4.5% of GDP in May, last year to 1.5-2% of GDP today. And have also stated that, they will
be revising at the gold imports and exports once to still reduce the CAD. Rajan had also said that
the reserves have increased substantially than before and will increase further in the coming
future.
