A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in English 7

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, you should be able to:


a. Distinguish between active and passive voice;
b. Rewrite the sentence changing the voice from active to passive voice and vice
versa.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Use Active and Passive Voice Meaningfully in Varied Context

Strategies: 4A’s (Activity, Analysis, Abstraction, Application)

III. PROCEDURE
1. PRELIMINARIES

A. Greetings
The teacher will greet the class and vice versa.

B. Prayer
Before the class begins, the teacher will select a student to lead the prayer.

C. Checking of Attendance
The teacher will call the students by their surnames alphabetically to check
whether they are present or absent.
D. Checking of Assignments
The teacher will ask the students to bring out their assignments given
yesterday. Then, the teacher will collect their papers to check and record the
students’ output at home.

E. Setting the Rules

1. The teacher will instruct the students to pick up pieces of trash near them,
arrange their seats properly, sit properly, and keep things that are not related
to the class.
2. The teacher will remind students of the rules to be followed during class
hours:
a. Be respectful.
b. No transferring of seats unless necessary.
c. Do not speak when someone is speaking, raise your hand if you want to
speak. Wait for others to finish.
d. Only use gadgets when allowed.
e. Participate actively in the class.

F. Motivation

Activity: The students will watch a one-minute video clip “Passive Voice Song-
Rokin’ English” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARaEpSAD-ng
The students will observe the statements found in the lyrics of the song.

Task: After watching the video, students will pay attention to how the actions
are described in the song lyrics. The teacher will select sentences from the song.
Students will then raise their "Active" or "Passive" cards to identify the voice
used in each sentence.

b. The song is sung by me. PASSIVE
c. The song is sung by her. PASSIVE
d. She sings the song. ACTIVE
e. They play the drums. ACTIVE
f. The drums are played by them. PASSIVE

2. ANALYSIS

The teacher will ask the following questions to gather answers from the students:

a. What did you observe in the sentences found in the lyrics of the song?
b. What do you think is the difference between active and passive voice?
c. Can you infer what will be our lesson for today?
Reading of Objectives:
The teacher will instruct the students to collectively read the learning
objectives. Then, the teacher will elaborate on the objectives.

At the end of the lesson, you should be able to:


a. Distinguish between active and passive voice;
b. Rewrite the sentence changing the voice from active to passive voice and
vice versa.

A. ABSTRACTION
The teacher will let the student watch:

The teacher and the students will have an active discussion on Active and Passive

B. APPLICATION

For student’s activity, the students will be given a printed worksheet and answer
the following activity.

Activity: Active vs Passive

Direction: Determine if each sentence is written in active or passive voice,


encircle the voice before the sentence. Then, underline the doer in the sentence.
Two (2) points for each item.

(Active voice, Passive voice) 1. The policeman arrested the criminal.


(Active voice, Passive voice) 2. Nixanne’s new dress was adored by her friends.
(Active voice, Passive voice) 3. The new curtains were hung by the women.
(Active voice, Passive voice) 4. The brave fireman entered the burning building.
(Active voice, Passive voice) 5. Tagum Construction Company built our neighbor’s
house.
(Active voice, Passive voice) 6. The new building was constructed by the workers.
(Active voice, Passive voice) 7. Jeff watches NBA final game
(Active voice, Passive voice) 8. The flowers were planted by Mae and Kyle.

IV. EVALUATION

For student’s activity, the students will be instructed to bring out a ½ crosswise and
answer the activity of the digital material projected on the screen.

Activity: Work It Out!


Direction: Convert the sentences from movie clips from active to passive voice. Erasure
means wrong.

1. Passive voice:
The mouse was being chased by the cat.
2. Passive voice:
The panda was fed by the goose.

3. Passive voice:
The panther has been given a pair of smelly shoes by the man.

4. Passive voice:
The woman is woken up by the cat every morning.

5. Passive voice:
The escaped prisoners were caught by the police.

7. Passive Voice:
Dory was caught in the net by the fishermen.

V. ASSIGNMENT

The teacher will inform the students of their assignment and will be instructed to jot
down the sentences projected on the screen. Their outputs will be collected tomorrow.

Direction: In a long bond paper, convert each sentence from active to passive voice or
vice versa. Write your answers in the provided space below the sentence. Copy and
answer. Three (3) points for every item.

1. The best performance of the night was performed by The Great Magsaysay band.
The Great Magsaysay band performed the best performance of the night.

2. Teenagers celebrated the completion of their final exams with a big party.
The completion of their final exams was celebrated by teenagers with a big party.

3. The song played by the musicians were flawless.
