    Guidelines for Writing a Reaction Paper, Review, or Critique

    1. Introduction

    Purpose: To provide context and present the main focus of the paper.

     Context: Introduce the work you are reacting to, reviewing, or critiquing. Include
    relevant background information such as the author/creator, title, and the nature of the
    work (e.g., article, short story, film).
     Thesis Statement: Clearly state your overall reaction or evaluation. This should outline
    your primary response or the key points of your critique.
     Purpose: Explain why you are writing this reaction paper, review, or critique. What do
    you aim to achieve with your analysis?

    2. Summary

    Purpose: To provide a brief and objective overview of the work.

     Main Points: Summarize the key elements of the work, such as plot points, themes, or
    arguments. Avoid including personal opinions or interpretations in this section.
     Brevity and Clarity: Keep the summary concise and focused on the most important
    aspects. Ensure that it provides enough context for readers who may not be familiar with
    the work.

    3. Analysis/Critique

    Purpose: To offer a detailed evaluation and interpretation of the work.

     Evaluation Criteria: Assess the work based on specific criteria relevant to its genre or
    medium. For a film, this might include direction, acting, and visual effects; for a short
    story, it could include plot development, characterization, and themes.
     Support with Evidence: Provide examples or evidence from the work to support your
    analysis. Discuss what works well and what could be improved.
     Balanced Perspective: Offer a fair and balanced critique by addressing both strengths
    and weaknesses. Avoid overly positive or negative biases.

    4. Conclusion

    Purpose: To summarize your overall reaction or evaluation and provide final thoughts.

     Restate Main Points: Briefly recap the main points of your analysis or critique.
    Emphasize the key findings or insights from your evaluation.
     Overall Impression: Provide a final assessment of the work. Summarize your overall
    reaction or recommendation, and reflect on the work’s impact or significance.
     Future Considerations: Optionally, suggest areas for further exploration or
    consideration if relevant.
