1. Purpose: To describe the procedure used by STS in order to conduct LM 79 testing when these LED Light sources are powered on 2. Scope 2.1. This method applies to the SSL products. The measurements required by this procedure are: 2.1.1. Total luminous flux 2.1.2. Electrical power 2.1.3. Luminous intensity distribution 2.1.4. Chromaticity 2.1.5. Spectral mismatch 2.1.6. Correlated Color Temperature (CCT) 2.1.7. Color Rendering Index (CRI) 2.2. These measurements are conducted once the following are verified: 2.2.1. AC power supply shall have a sinusoidal voltage waveshape at 50 or 60 Hz and the RMS summation of harmonic components is <3% of fundamental during product operation 2.2.2. AC Power supply or DC power supply shall be regulated to within 0.2% under load 2.2.3. The SSL product shall be operated long enough until it reaches stabilization (warm up time). Typical stabilization times are 30 minutes to 2 or more hours. At least 3 readings of light output and electrical power are taken 15 minutes apart and the drift in readings must be less than 0.5% 2.2.4. Uncertainties: The calibration uncertainties of the instruments for AC voltage and current shall be = 0.2%. The calibration uncertainty of the AC Power meter shall be = 0.5% and for DC voltage, it shall be = 0.1%. The manufacturer/customer specification must specify the level of uncertainty for calibration of these instruments; else manufacturer/customer should be contacted. 2.3. The scope of this test covers luminaries (fixture incorporating light source but does not cover the fixture alone). 2.4. The scope of this procedure does not provide guidance nor does it make any recommendations regarding predictive estimations or extrapolations for measurements of total luminous flux, electrical power, luminous intensity distribution, and chromaticity determined from actual measurements.

STS is in the process of receiving these equipments (Sec. 4.4-4.6) and PO has been released. 5. Definitions: 5.1. Solid State Lighting Products (SSL Products) 5.2. Measurement Units - volt, ampere, and watts 5.3. Units of photometric measurements: total luminous flux (lumens), luminous intensity (candela), luminous efficacy (lm/W), chromaticity 5.4. Test Units - LED Luminaire 5.5. LED Light Source Failure - Failure to produce light. Early failures to function due to manufacturing are reported but are not included in the calculation of LED Light source lumen maintenance. 6. Procedure / Requirements 6.1. Make sure proper ESD apparel is worn before entering the ESD controlled areas and ESD control process followed per GCS00-006. 6.2. Verify the calibration sticker on the equipment to ensure its validity. 6.3. The storage and testing of all LED sources will take place in a clean room environment. 6.4. Prior to operation, all equipments for housing these light sources shall be cleaned and purged with clean dry air to remove contamination and particles. 6.5. Identification of units must be tracked by marking directly on the unit or with the use of a label. Bar coding, ceramic ink mark or high temperature markers can be an option. 6.6. Prior to performing LM79, the following must be verified : 6.6.1. Air Temperature The ambient temperature shall be maintained at 25C+/1C at <1m and at the same height from the SSL product. Any temperature outside this given temperature is considered non-standard 6.6.2. Thermal Conditions for mounting It is mounted to the Integrated Sphere with the use of supporting objects (adaptors) that does not impact or cause cooling effects due to heat absorption 6.6.3. Air Movement air flow needs to be minimal around the SSL Product 6.6.4. Operating Orientation 6.6.4.1. The product must be tested according the orientation as suggested by manufacturer/customer for optimum thermal conditions

6.6.5. Electrical Settings 6.6.5.1.Pulse input electrical power and measurements synchronized with reduced duty cycle input power intended to reduce pn junction temperatures below those reached with continuous input electrical power shall not be used for SSL product testing 6.6.5.2.Products with dimming capability and those with multiple modes of operation(including variable CCT), are tested at maximum input power condition or equivalent 7. Exclusion 7.1. Photometric Testing is conducted by the customer/manufacturer and the data is shared with STS. However any photometric data that does not meet the LM-79 specifications must be reported. 8. Sample Size Determination 8.1. The sample selection is determined by the manufacturer/customer 9. LM-79 Luminous Flux Measurement Procedure 9.1. The LED lamps are first mounted onto the mounting stand. A set typically contains 12-30 individual LED lamps. 9.2. Steps to measure luminous flux measurement using an integrating sphere employing a spectroradiometer after ensuring calibration and setup is done. 9.2.1. Place the device under test in front of the sphere opening centered well. 9.2.2. Turn on the power through a soft key which lasts for about 25msecs. 9.2.3. Once this is done, the data is captured onto a spreadsheet. Data captured by this test are: 9.2.3.1. Total luminous flux 9.2.3.2. Electrical power 9.2.3.3. Luminous intensity distribution 9.2.3.4. Chromaticity 9.2.3.5. Spectral mismatch 9.2.3.6. Correlated Color Temperature (CCT) 9.2.3.7. Color Rendering Index (CRI) 9.2.4. Continue to test the next device
