Assignment on W3C (World Wide Web

Consortium)
University of Jhang

Student Name: M. Taha

Semester: 1st

Department: BBA

Introduction
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is an organization that sets the rules and
standards for how the web should work. It was established in 1994 by Tim Berners-Lee, the
inventor of the World Wide Web. W3C aims to make sure that the web is open, accessible,
and functional for everyone. This means that the websites we visit, no matter what device
we use or where we are, should work the same and be easy to navigate.

Importance of W3C
W3C plays a crucial role in making the web better for everyone. If we didn't have W3C
standards, the internet would be a confusing and inconsistent place. Some websites might
not work on certain devices, or they might be difficult to use for some people, especially
those with disabilities.

Main Roles of W3C

1. Creating Web Standards: W3C develops standards that tell web developers how to build
websites. This includes things like HTML, which structures a web page, and CSS, which
helps style it. These standards ensure that the web looks and works the same for everyone.

2. Accessibility: W3C also focuses on making sure that the web is accessible to everyone.
This means they create guidelines to help developers make websites that are easy to use for
people with disabilities. One such set of guidelines is the Web Content Accessibility
Guidelines (WCAG).

3. Security and Privacy: With the rise of cyber threats and privacy concerns, W3C helps
create standards that protect users' data and ensure their privacy online. They work to
make sure that websites are secure and protect personal information.
How W3C Works
W3C brings together experts from various industries, universities, and governments to
create these web standards. It's not just one person or one company deciding the rules.
Instead, they collaborate to ensure that the standards they create work well for everyone,
no matter where they are in the world.

Examples of W3C Standards

1. HTML5: The latest version of HTML, which structures websites and web applications.
Without HTML, the web as we know it wouldn’t exist.

2. CSS (Cascading Style Sheets): This helps to style and layout web pages. CSS ensures that
web pages look good, with things like fonts, colors, and layouts all being controlled by CSS.

3. Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG): These guidelines help developers make
websites more accessible to people with disabilities, ensuring that everyone can use the
web easily.

Conclusion
In conclusion, the W3C is vital to keeping the web open, accessible, and usable for everyone.
Their standards ensure that the websites we visit are built correctly, can be accessed by
anyone, and protect our privacy. Without W3C, the web would be a less organized, more
complicated space.
