we can use social media to help us in learning, one of which is to improve English language
skills. One of the most widely used social media platforms is Twitter. Twitter is one of the
effective social applications to be used as a platform for learning English because its users
come from various parts of the world. The dissemination of information that occurs on
Twitter is effective and often relates to the phenomenon being discussed, which makes the
delivery of information clear and easily accessible.
There are many English learning accounts that can be found on Twitter, one of which
is the Jeya English Hacks account. The account helps early learners because it contains
content related to tips, strategies, learning hacks, and explanations of sentence structure
material that can help users understand and enrich their English vocabulary. This account

1. Social Media
Social media has changed the way we learn languages in a far-reaching manner,
offering new and exciting platforms for students to interact with language more dynamically.
Previous studies support the positive impact of social media in different areas of language
learning including writing, reading, and listening and communication skills (Al Jahromi et al.,
2020) with some research even revealing noteworthy enhancements by using it during the
COVID-19 pandemic. Twitter and Instagram have the unique ability to make slang go viral,
reflecting current cultural trends and encouraging creativity with language (Mason & Rennie,
2008).
Arguing this point, Eren (2012) and Fathi et al. Nonetheless, the nature of written
communication in the online world is more informal than traditional writing forms and it can
produce bad habits from writers who no longer care about sentence structure or other aspects
of grammatical correctness (Baldwin, 2012) and this creates a concern that formal language
will be diminished (Lin et al., 2016). Thus, social media can provide the background
necessary for expanding vocabulary and holistic language development that includes real-
world interaction and coexistence among peers but teachers still need to find ways of
compromising the relevance of these tools to syllabi without letting students away too much
from strict writing patterns. Further studies have to examine the more complex relations
concerning social media patterns and L2 learning [27] so that these tools can be fruitfully
implemented in language education.

CHAPTER III RESEARCH METHOD
This study will employ a qualitative research method, utilizing both interviews and
questionnaires to gather in-depth insights into the role of the Jeya English Hacks Twitter
account in enriching English learners' vocabulary. Semi-structured qualitative interviews will
be conducted with participants who actively engage with the account, allowing for flexibility
in responses while covering key topics related to their experiences and perceptions.
Participants will be recruited through purposive sampling, focusing on high school or
university students studying English as a second language. Each interview, lasting 10-15
minutes, will be audio-recorded (with consent) and transcribed for thematic analysis to
identify patterns regarding vocabulary acquisition strategies and perceived benefits.
Additionally, an online questionnaire will be administered to the same participants, featuring
both closed-ended and open-ended questions to collect quantitative data on their engagement
with the Twitter account and its effectiveness in enhancing vocabulary. The questionnaire
data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics, while open-ended responses will undergo
thematic coding to complement the qualitative findings. This mixed-methods approach aims
to provide a comprehensive understanding of how the Jeya English Hacks Twitter account
contributes to vocabulary acquisition among English learners, combining qualitative insights
with quantitative trends for a nuanced exploration of social media's role in language learning.
