Greetings
GOOD MORNING CLASS!! Everybody stand up and may I call on
Mohamad to lead the prayer please.
OKAY! ONCE AGAIN! Good morning to all of you class! How are
you this morning? That’s good to hear! Oh teacher is fine, thank
you so much for asking.
Before you take your seat please pick up the pieces of papers
under your tables and arrange your chairs properly, OKAY WELL
DONE! Very good.

C. Checking of attendance
I observe a lot of faces today I think everyone is interested for
today’s class, by the way, class monitor is anyone absent today?
Okay good! Keep it up class.

D. Reminders
Before we proceed to our proper discussion, first we’ll first have
our house rules and reminders. I want everyone to participate
actively in all group activity and group presentation, and you
need to be an active participant in all the task. Are we clear?
Okay.

RECAP
And I just want to ask if there’s anyone from the calls can
still remember what we discussed last meeting? Okay
very good, you have learn so far about
HOW EVOLUTION OF DIFFERENT ORGANISMS
THROUGH NATURAL SELECTION.
E. Motivation
Okay everyone eyes on the screen, okay! I have here a picture (a
picture of rainbow).
What can you say about this picture? Anyone from the class?
Yes, Kate?
Correct.
So what can you say now about the rainbow?
Yes Kyle?
Correct.
The rainbow has many different colors. Do you think a rainbow
could still exist without these different colors?
No right, yes because these 7 different colors make a rainbow
exist. Just like us, we have differences. And these differences exist
in the biosphere.
Thus, our topic this morning is all about Biodiversity. But before
that, let us be guided by our lesson objectives. Everybody please
read our objectives.

In order for us to have a meaningful discussion, let us have first

an activity.

But before that, are you ready to listen?

Okay, the first thing you do is you are going to watch the video
clip that I am going to present with you. While watching the video
clip I want you to answer the ff. questions.

Please take note it first. Are you done copying class?

Okay, after watching the video, you are going to choose your
partner. Please choose your partner now.

Are you done choosing your pair?

Okay. Please watch this video first.

Watching Time (the video clips contain a little bit

explanation about biodiversity and its levels) Now the video is
over.

I think it’s time to discuss your answers with your partner based
on the guide questions. I only allow you to do the sharing time
within 3 minutes. And after that, I will ask certain student
randomly about the video presented.

(Sharing time)

Okay class your time is over.

The video presented talks about biodiversity, so what is
biodiversity?

Yes, Katrina?
Biodiversity is short term for biological diversity.
Biodiversity talks about variety of organisms in
terms of gene, living in different habitats or
ecosystem.

Okay, what else? Correct.

According to many biologists, Biodiversity is the sum of

all the different species of animals, plants, fungi and
microbial organisms living on Earth and the variety of
habitats in which they live.

What about the three main types of biodiversity?

Yes, Joy? Correct.

The three main types of biodiversity are: species diversity,

genetic diversity, and ecosystem diversity

Correct. Based on the video, who among of you here can explain
to me what is the term species? Yes? Ian?

According to the video, a species is a group of

genetically distinct organism that can have
offspring. Species diversity refers to variety of
organism in terms of their species.

Correct, species refers to a group of organisms that have distinct

traits. However, when you encountered
“species diversity” , what does it mean?

Yes? Maylene?
Species diversity refers to variety of organism in
terms of their species.

Okay. Thank you. Species diversity is just simply talks about

different kinds of organisms. For example. The species of
dog is far different from the species of bird. Did you get
class?

Okay, Now, who among of you here can explain to me about

second type or level of biodiversity, which is the genetic diversity?
Yes, Karl?
Genetic diversity refers to differences among
organisms in terms of gene.

Genetic diversity talks about differences among species

of organisms in terms of gene they contain. Although all
organisms in the same species are quite related to each
other, but they are not 100% identical. Thus, every
species of organism is unique. For example, a species of
beetle.

Are all beetles the same in terms of color and physical traits?
No sir!
Okay. And even the color trait would reveal that certain
beetle is different from the other beetle. And that is the
concept of genetic diversity.

What about the third one? Who can explain to me what is an

ecosystem diversity? Anyone? Yes, Keith?

An ecosystem diversity talks about differences of

organism in terms of their habitat in which they
live in.

Very good.

An ecosystem diversity talks about the different kinds of

places where organisms live and the dynamic
interconnections between them. For example, animals
that live in the dessert has distinct adaptation compare to
animals that live in the forest. Meaning to say they differ
in terms of location or habitat.

Are the concepts about biodiversity clear to you class? Very good.
Okay. Now, allow me to divide the class into 6 groups
, let’s start counting here. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,
Now, go to your respective groups and follow this illustration.

Are all set within their group?

Okay. Listen to my instructions first.

Are all my instructions clear to you class?

Okay. Please listen to my instructions first. In this activity, you are
going to differentiate species diversity, genetic diversity and
ecosystem diversity through this 3-column chart.

You are only allowed to finish the task within 5minutes and
afterwards, each group must have to choose a presenter. . Are all
my instructions clear to you class? Okay.
Okay your time starts now.

PRESENTATION OF OUTPUTS!

Are the three types of biodiversity cleared to you?

Do you have question any question so far?

ELABORATE SCENE

Since you already explain biodiversity and differentiate its

definition. I want you to express The benefits of biodiversity
through paint me a picture.

Okay class please listen to my instructions first.

Are you ready to listen?

This activity is called “paint me a picture”.

Groupings in previous activity will merge. Group 1and 2 will
merge same with groups 3 and 4, then 5 and 6. Therefore, there
should be three groups in all.

At my left side is the place for group 1 at my right side is the

group 3 and at the center is the group 2.
Go to your respective group now silently. Are all set within their
group? Okay. I am going to project a certain scenario about
problems regarding biodiversity.

In this activity you are going to suggest certain solution on how to

address that problem through paint mea picture or tableau. You
are only allowed to portray each of the benefits of biodiversity in
20 seconds.
Another lecture from the topic!!!!!!

Biodiversity is the shortened form of two words “biological” and

“diversity”. It refers to all the variety of life that can be found on
Earth (plants, animals, fungi and microorganisms) as well as to
the communities that they from and the habitats in which they
live.
Biodiversity is a broad term and is often divided into three types.
Three types of Biodiversity
Species diversity refers to the variety of different types of
species found in a particular area. It is the biodiversity at the
most basic level. It includes all the species ranging from plants to
different microorganisms.
VARIETY OF SPECIES IN A GIVEN AREA.
Genetic diversity it refers to the variations among the genetic
resources of the organisms. Every individual of a particular
species differs from each other in their genetic constitution. That
is why every human looks different from each other. Similarly,
there are different varieties in the same species of rice, wheat,
maize, barley, etc.
VARIETY OF GENETIC MAKEUP WITHIN A SPECIES
Ecosystem diversity deals with the different ecosystems in a
certain location and their overall effects on humans and the
environment.
VARIETY OF HABITATS, ECOSYSTEMS,AND COMMUNITIES.
Examples:
 Deserts
 Forests
 Large marine ecosystems
 Old-growth forests
 Tundra
 Coral reefs
Biodiversity is important because it sustains the balance flow
of energy in an ecosystem.
Biodiversity is important because it contributes to
environmental stability.
Stability is a state of balance in an ecosystem where it maintains
the flow of nutrients (abiotic factor) and the flow of energy in a
form of food. Any factor that maintains this balance will be gone;
the system may collapse.
The Stability of an ecosystem can be described as the resilience
to withstand changes that may occur in the environment.
The higher the biodiversity, the more stable the
ecosystem. (stable=stays the same)
An ecosystem with high biodiversity does not change
easily; it is stable
An ecosystem with low biodiversity is unstable.
Every living organisms around us has its own important role or
value for us to live. It can be economical, ecological and
aesthetical valuable.
The value of species can be divided into three categories:
1. Direct economic value - The species is considered to have
direct economic value if their products are sources of food,
medicine, clothing, shelter, and energy.

2. Indirect economic value - A species has an indirect

economic value if there are benefits produced by the
organism without using them.

3. Aesthetic value – Aesthetic value is the species provide

visual or artistic enjoyment.
