Supporting Decarbonization
Abstract. Green buildings are one of the efforts to carry out energy transition and decarbonization in the
building sub-sector. This sector has contributed one-third of the world's carbon emissions, from building
material manufacture and construction processes to energy use and building operations other than industries and
the transportation sector. Building certification is important for green buildings that are feasible and
environmentally friendly. Several certifications are leading all over the countries as LEED, BREEAM,
GREENSHIP, Green Mark, and others. This certification assesses various aspects ranging from energy
efficiency, building materials, water conservation, land use, and proximity to transportation. However, each
country has different geographical conditions and strategies used to create and assess green buildings on their
standards. Green building standards in tropical, subtropical, and cold climates will differ in terms of operational
materials and energy needed. However, Europe, America, and most of the countries in Asia have main indicators
in the field of energy conservation efficiency, water management, and waste. For this reason, this study analyzes
indicators of green buildings used in United States, China, and Indonesia.
