Angel Bath
By Sandra Labossiere
A blend of soothing Mineral Salts, Oatmeal, Arrowroot,
Coconut Milk plus lashings of creamy Cocoa & Shea Butter
to give you seductively soft, sweet-scented skin.
Just add a small handful to your steamy bath water.
Unwind, wash the day away and restore a sense of
inner peace as you pamper your skin with this luxuriously
soothing, softening soak
*About Some of the Ingredients*
Epsom Salts: magnesium sulfate is a natural muscle relaxant; known for its exceptional purity and therapeutic value, it dissolves easily, making it
perfect for relaxing soaks and soothing sore muscles.

Sea Salt: Sea salt mineral baths promote relaxation, reduced stress, enhanced circulation, increased detoxification, improved skin integrity and
decreased inflammation when used alone and in combination with botanicals.

Arrowroot Powder: Your skin will experience many benefits from this soothing, wonderful herb. Easily dissolved into the bath water, it leaves
skin feeling so soft and silky.

Colloidal Oatmeal: Colloidal oatmeal is a product that consists of oats that have been ground very fine for use as a bath remedy for
problematic skin. Very soothing and moisturizing. Colloidal Oatmeal is created to completely dissolve in the bath. If you have trouble sourcing
this, you may make something similar by very finely grinding oatmeal in a high-powered blender. Even finely ground, this may not
completely dissolve in your bath water the same way colloidal oatmeal will, but it will still provide much of the same benefit.

Coconut Milk Powder: A very luxurious addition, coconut milk is very moisturizing and softening to the skin.

Cocoa, Shea & Mango Butter: Moisturizes, soothes and softens the skin

Apricot Kernel Oil: Very rich and nourishing to the skin. You may of course substitute this oil for another favourite.

Banana Powder: Banana Powder is rich in potassium and vitamin A. In formulations, it has been proven to be great for dry skin, and contains no
known substance to aggravate or irritate the skin.

Strawberry Powder: Rich in polyphenols and Vitamin C, Strawberry Powder provides protection for the skin, has skin soothing properties and is
a wonderful toner.

Pineapple & Papaya would also be lovely additions. New Directions Canada has a wide variety of powdered fruit extracts.

If you’re experiencing difficulty finding fruit powders or extracts in your area, you can always replace these with more easily found, finely
powdered herbs such as Calendula, Green Tea and Chamomile
* The Recipe ~ Makes 1 Kilogram * Red Bolding is for a 1 kg batch
Oils:
1.5 % - 15 grams Cocoa Butter
1.5% - 15 grams Mango or Shea Butter
2% - 20 grams Apricot or Pumpkin Seed Oil
1% - 10 grams Polysorbate 80

Powders:
40% - 400 grams Epsom salt
9% - 90 grams Fine Sea Salt (I like pink Himalayan, but any fine sea salt is great)
12% - 120 grams Baking Soda
12% - 120 grams Arrowroot Powder (very healing and soothing to the skin)
7.5% - 75 grams Coconut Milk Powder (very soothing and moisturizing)
5.5% - 55 grams Citric Acid
3.5% -35 grams Colloidal Oatmeal (very soothing and relieves dry, itchy skin)

Fruit additives:
Total of 2% Powdered Fruit Extract
20 grams of powdered fruits or fruit extracts of choice:
I use a combination of Banana Powder, Strawberry Powder, Orange Powder and occasionally Pumpkin Powder as I have it in my stock. Pineapple
and Papaya are also very nice and are loaded with enzymes. Many companies are now carrying powdered fruit extracts. I get mine from New
Directions.

Colourants
½ - 1 tsp annatto seed powder for colour. This gives a pretty, natural orange- yellow colour to the mix. You may use other herbal colourants or
Mica. If you choose to use Mica, I would recommend adding it and a small amount of Polysorbate 80 to the melted oils, before mixing into
powdered mixture. This will help to keep the Mica from possibly settling onto the side of the tub. Use amount to desired tint.
Optional: ½ TBSP titanium Dioxide – gives a creamier appearance to the mixture (OPTIONAL and not included in the percentages)

Fragrances: I use a combination of the following fragrances – all from Nature’s Garden. You can, of course, use any blend that you like. This
blend was created for my daughter. She hates the smell of coconut, but if I could, I would love to add a titch of Coconut fragrance. The following
is 2.5% or 25 grams for a 1kg batch. You may adjust the amounts as desired.

8 grams Black Raspberry Vanilla

1 grams Banana
3 grams Coco Mango
5 grams Baby Graceful
3 grams Sweet Orange Chili Pepper
5 grams Peach

* Mixing it All Up *
1. Into a large mixing bowl, sift together all of the powdered ingredients including the fruit powders, Annatto seed powder and Titanium
Dioxide. Mix very well with gloved hands. I personally prefer to use my Kitchen Aid stand mixer, but it’s not necessary, if you don’t have
one. Just make sure to mix very well and make sure there are no lumps.

2. Gently melt the butters and oils over low heat or double boiler. Stir in the fragrance oils, mica (if using) and Polysorbate 80. Drizzle this
mixture over the powdered mixture and mix and stir very well with your gloved hands. Work on this for several minutes to completely
incorporate the oils evenly into the mixture. Rubbing handfuls between your gloved hands works very well. It’s here that you’ll be very
happy if you have a stand mixer. 
* Packaging *
There are many ways to package this. This is just
one. Other options include:
• Cellophane bags and ribbon
• Clear plastic cosmetic jars
• Large tins
• Mason Jars
Dollar stores offer many fantastic options!

My daughter likes to add about ½ cup to her

bath.
*Before Packaging, allow the mixture to sit and
dry for 2-3 days. This is best accomplished by
spreading on parchment paper covered baking
sheets. Doing this allows the gases formed by
the citric acid and baking soda to be released,
thus keeping it from building up in a tightly
sealed jar. If you have high humidity, cover the
mixture with paper towels, while drying.
