SCI - MATH MONTH CELEBRATION


SUDOKU GUIDELINES
INDIVIDUAL COMPETITION
I. MECHANICS
1. The sudoku event will be open into three categories: Category A for Grade School (Grade Levels 4,
5, and 6); Category B for Junior High School (Grade Levels 7, 8, 9, and 10); Category C for Senior
High School (Clusters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6).
2. Participants from Category A will have a 6×6 grid, while participants from Category B and C will
have a 9×9 grid.
3. The participants will provide their own pen. Any colored pen is permitted. Participants can also use
pencil, but the final answer must be written by a pen.
4. The participants must make sure that they will write clear answers (e. g. numbers)
The participants must use correction tape or pen before writing their new answers.
5. Participants must arrive at the competition site 15 minutes before the event begins. Participants who
fail to arrive 10 minutes after the event's scheduled start time will be disqualified immediately. BE
PUNCTUAL.

II. RULES
1. The Sudoku competition will be divided into three rounds: EASY round (10 minutes), AVERAGE
round (15 minutes), DIFFICULT round (20 minutes).
2. After finishing the puzzles, participants must submit their answer sheet at the committee/facilitators
by THEMSELVES. The committee/facilitator will record time and no further editing is allowed.
3. Decisions and judgement made by the committee/facilitators is finalized.

III. SCORING
1. COMPLETE SOLUTION
- Participants will get score for each puzzle which is completely solve before the time is up. Score
for each puzzle will depend on the difficulty of that puzzle.
- The points for each puzzle are determined for every correct vertical, horizontal, and per box of
the puzzle.
- Participants will get 2 points for easy round, 3 points for average round, and 5 points for
difficulty round.

- If a participant completes the puzzles in each round before the time runs out, he or she will
receive a time bonus score.
- Participants will get 1 point for each minute that has left - seconds will be omitted. However,
participant will not get time bonus if the puzzle is not solved completely and correctly.

E. g. If there is 10 minutes allowed to solve Sudoku puzzles, and the participant


successfully solve in 5 minutes 20 seconds. In this case, participants will have
4 minutes left (40 seconds omitted). Then, time bonus will be 4 x 1 = 4
points.

IV. CERTIFICATIONS
Certifications for the winning participant on every category will be given:
● CHAMPION (will receive a MEDAL)
● 1st Runner Up
● 2nd Runner Up
● 3rd Runner Up
● 4th Runner Up
● 5th Runner Up
The event will occur on September 20, 2024.
