TEACHING AND LEARNING

Digital learning tools - include a wide variety of applications, websites, and learning platforms that
facilitate learning by connecting students, teachers, and sometimes even parents. Digital Learning Tools can
assist teachers and students with teaching, learning, and communication. While Digital learning tools may
be hard to define, think of them as online programs, applications, or technology that can enhance a student's
ability to access information and understanding. It is important to remember that there are a plethora of
digital learning tools and that they are always expanding. Digital learning tools are mostly accessed via the
internet but can be used at home or in a school setting. They can help students more deeply understand the
content their teacher is sharing.
Why Use Online Learning Tools?
With an increase in technology available in classrooms, more teachers and students are using digital
learning tools than ever before. Digital learning tools should enhance a teacher's instruction and support
students in grappling with key concepts, knowledge, and understanding of the content. Many of these tools
can simplify lesson creation and management, improve engagement and discussion for students, and allow
clear communication from the instructor to both the student and the caregiver. Using digital learning tools
can increase students' time learning and can be very effective. Today's teachers must familiarize themselves
with digital learning tools to be proficient in the classroom.
Types of Online Learning Tools: There is a wide and ever-increasing variety of online education tools
available to educators and students today. Remember that online learning tools refer to any program,
application, or technology that enhances a teacher's instruction. The main types of digital tools for educators
or online educational tools can be broken into three major categories: online classrooms, assistive
technology, and apps (applications). This list is not exhaustive, and educators should be proactive when
looking into the most current online learning tools.
Online Classrooms - Many students and teachers have experienced an online classroom in the past few
years. Many teachers and districts put their teaching and learning materials in a virtual learning platform or a
learning management system (LMS). Think of this as a virtual locker that houses your textbooks, materials,
novels, resources, notes, etc. One may encounter a learning management system in many online classrooms.
Online classrooms have a wide range but can be broken into three categories; blended classrooms, flipped
classrooms, and distance education classrooms.
A blended classroom is when the teacher is utilizing both print and computers within the classroom space
meaning they are doing some face-to-face instruction and utilizing the computer to support student learning
as well. This can look a variety of ways, but many times teacher will supplement their curriculum with
videos, games, or specific software to practice on. Many national curriculums offer their materials in both
print and digital.
A flipped classroom also uses both face-to-face instruction and digital instruction. What makes a flipped
classroom unique is that students are doing the "learning" of information at home via videos, texts, or
software and then coming into the classroom to engage in projects, discussions, and collaborative tasks.
Finally, distance education classrooms, also known as virtual classrooms, are where the entire instruction is
done remotely. The teacher and the student may meet online and engage in instruction together via the
internet, but they will never meet face to face.
C. SELECT AND USE OF ICT TOOLS FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING
Introduction
The current systems employ technologies by integrating ICT tools and application in education and
in instruction. The great part of learning is working on information and using it to create something that can
be useful and edifying for humanity.
Since the intention of education is to make learners become useful and productive citizens, the use of
ICT tools can provide a lot of possibilities on how learners can do something with what they know.
Teachers can therefore employ ICT tools in their ways of engaging learners by communicating,
disseminating and managing information. The effective use of ICT tools depends on how the teacher will
use them. When employed appropriately, they can make the lesson meaningful and learner’s engagement in
the process of learning. In instruction of ICT tools can be used in presentation of the lesson, demonstrating a
point or presenting a concept.

Learning Inputs
“Technology will never replace great teachers, but technology in the hands of great teachers is
transformational”
-George Couros
