1. WHY STUDY ABOUT INFORMATION SYSTEMS?
Understanding the concepts of information systems is essential for
grasping the interconnected aspects of different areas like:
• Technology
• Applications
• Development
• Management.
TECHNOLOGY
Information systems use a combination of technologies like computers,
software, and networks to help businesses store, organize, and share data.
These systems include physical equipment (like computers and servers) and
software programs that run on them. All of these parts work together to make
sure information flows quickly and securely within a business.
APPLICATION
Information systems help businesses run more smoothly by using different
tools to manage tasks. Apps or software are designed to make work easier and
more efficient. Whether it's managing inventory or helping customers, they
automate tasks that would otherwise take a lot of time
DEVELOPMENT
In information systems, development refers to the process of creating or
improving technology to help businesses work better. This includes building
software and databases that help businesses organize and store data or creating
tools that help employees complete their tasks faster.

MANAGEMENT
Information systems also help managers make better decisions by
providing them with important data. These systems organize and show data
about things like sales, performance, and customer feedback. These systems
also help managers and teams work together more easily by sharing information
quickly.

2. WHAT IS INFORMATION SYSTEM?
An Information system is a combination of hardware, software, and
telecommunication networks that people build to collect, create, and distribute
useful data, typically in an organization. It defines the flow of information within
the system.
Input
This is the stage where raw data is collected and entered into the system.
Input devices like keyboards, scanners, or sensors gather information that will be
processed later.
Process
The system processes it to turn raw data into useful information. This can
involve calculations, comparisons, or formatting.
Output
This is the result of the processing stage, where the information is
presented in a usable form. Output can come in many forms, such as reports,
visual graphs, or alerts

EXPLANATION & EXAMPLE:
For example, raw materials, and data must be secured and organized for
processing.
Feedback
provides information about the system’s performance, showing whether it
is meeting set standards or objectives. This information is sent back into the
system so that necessary adjustments can be made.
Control
Control refers to the actions taken based on the feedback to correct any
deviations from expected performance. Managers use control mechanisms to
4
adjust processes, ensuring that the system operates efficiently and aligns with
business goals
