Tension Technique 1: Show, Don’t Tell!

SHOW, DON’T TELL uses the FIVE senses to describe something.

• It helps the reader to imagine the story.


• It makes your writing more interesting.
• We SHOW the reader the picture to imagine.
• We DON’T TELL the reader what the picture is – that’s boring!
• We can use ‘show, don’t tell’ to describe the tension.
