1. Let f and g be analytic functions in the domain D. If f ′ (z) = g ′ (z) for all
z in D, then show that f (z) = g(z) + C, where C is a complex constant.
2. Let f be an analytic function in the domain D. Show that if Re[f (z)] = 0
at all point in D, then f is constant in D.
3. Let f be a nonconstant analytic function in the domain D. Show that the
function g(z) = f (z) is not analytic in D.
4. Find the constants a and b such that f (z) = (2x − y) + i(ax + by) is
differentiable for all z.
5. Let f (z) = ex cos y + iex sin y. Show that both f (z) and f ′ (z) are differ-
entiable for all z.
6. Use any method to show that the following functions are nowhere differ-
entiable.
(a) h(z) = ey cos x + iey sin x.
(b) g(z) = z + z̄
7. (a) Prove that the function u = 2x(1 − y) is harmonic.
(b) Find a function v such that f (z) = u + iv is analytic [i.e., find the
conjugate function of u].
(c) Express f (z) in terms of z.
8. Answer problem 7. for the function u = x2 − y 2 − 2xy − 2x + 3y.
9. Verify that the Cauchy-Riemann equations are satisfied for the functions

harmonic function, find the conjugate harmonic function v and express
u + iv as an analytic function of z.
(a) 3x2 y + 2x2 − y 3 − 2y 2 ,
(b) 2xy + 3xy 2 − 2y 3 ,
(c) xex cos y − yex sin y,
(d) e−2xy sin(x2 − y 2 )
11. (a) Prove that ψ = ln[(x − 1)2 + (y − 2)2 ] is harmonic in every region
which does not include the point (1, 2).
