Unit-6 AI TOOLS –ChatGPT

TASK-1 Prompt Engineering

Q. What is ChatGPT? What are the uses of ChatGPT? What are different types of
prompts?.
ChatGPT refers to a type of conversational AI model developed by OpenAI. It's based on the
GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) architecture and designed specifically for
generating human-like text based on the input it receives. This AI model is trained on vast
amounts of text data from the internet, allowing it to understand context, generate coherent
responses, answer questions, assist in various tasks, and engage in conversations with users in
a manner that simulates natural language.
Uses of ChatGPT are: ChatGPT models, such as GPT-3.5, are capable of understanding and
generating text across a wide range of topics, making them versatile for use in customer
service, content creation, language translation, educational purposes, and much more. These
models have been trained on diverse datasets to enhance their ability to comprehend and
generate human-like text responses, enabling them to provide valuable assistance and
information to users in various domains.
To work with ChatGPT in a browser, you can utilize OpenAI's GPT-3 Playground, which
offers an interface for interacting with the GPT-3 model directly in your web browser. Here's
how you can access and use it:
 Visit the OpenAI website: Go to the OpenAI website using your web browser.
 Sign In or Sign Up (if required): Some functionality might require you to sign
in with your OpenAI account. If you don't have an account, you might need to
sign up and possibly wait for access approval or an API key.
 Enter Your Prompt: Type your prompt or query into the provided text box.
This prompt should serve as the starting point for the conversation or the
information you seek from ChatGPT.
 Interact and Receive Responses: After entering your prompt, submit it, and the
model will generate a response based on the input you provided. You can then
continue the conversation by responding to the generated text or asking further
questions.
 Experiment and Explore: You can experiment with different types of prompts,
topics, or questions to see how the model responds and explore its capabilities.
Types of Prompts: In the context of using GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) models
like ChatGPT, prompts are inputs or instructions given to the model to generate responses or
perform tasks. Different types of prompts can be used to guide the model in various ways.
Here are several types of prompts used in chat GPT and similar language models:
1. Conversation starters: These prompts initiate a conversation by providing a generic or
specific opening line. For example, "Hi, how are you?" or "Tell me about your day."
2. Question-based prompts: These prompts ask specific questions, prompting the model
to provide information or answers based on the query. For instance, "What is the
capital of France?" or "Can you explain the concept of gravity?"

3. Instructional prompts: These prompts instruct the model to perform a specific action
or task, such as summarizing a text, translating a phrase, generating code, or
completing a story.
4. Conditional prompts: These prompts provide specific conditions or contexts for
generating responses. They guide the model by setting parameters or constraints. For
example, "Write a story about a detective solving a mystery" or "Explain the impact
of climate change on coastal regions."
5. Contextual prompts: These prompts utilize existing conversation history or context by
providing preceding messages or information. This helps in maintaining continuity
and relevance within ongoing discussions.
6. Role-playing prompts: These prompts instruct the model to take on a specific role or
persona, encouraging it to respond accordingly. For example, "You are a customer
service representative. Help the user troubleshoot their issue."
7. Creative prompts: These prompts encourage the generation of imaginative or creative
content, such as generating poems, stories, or hypothetical scenarios.
8. Problem-solving prompts: These prompts involve posing a problem or scenario that
requires the model to come up with a solution or offer advice. For instance, "How can
we reduce plastic waste in oceans?" or "What steps should one take to start a small
business?"
These different types of prompts can be tailored to elicit specific responses from the model
and guide its generation towards desired outcomes or information. The effectiveness of
prompts often depends on their clarity, specificity, and the context in which they are used.
