INTRODUCTION
Human resource management (HRM) is strategic in an organization that is responsible
for attracting, developing, and keeping talent for business to succeed. Besides, HRM is also
designed to maximize employee performance in the implementation of employer strategic
objectives. These include recruitment, selection, training and development, management
performance and more. Moreover, HRM aims to ensure that organizations have the right staff,
skills and places at the right time. HRM also needs to ensure the safety of employees in the
organization when they do high-risk jobs. HRM also needs to ensure the safety of employees

occupational health and safety department known as "OSH". Malaysia also wants the safety
and well-being of workers at work. This is vital to the safety of the people and to the success
of the country.
HRM is responsible to make sure about employee safety and also workplace safe. A
safe working environment not only protects employees from injury and illness it also enhances
productivity, morale and overall organizational performance. With that employees will feel
calm and safe coming to work. We can implement safety strategies to make sure that employee
safety and workplace is safe to use. We need to proactively address safety concerns and
continuously improve safety protocols, organizations can create a secure and healthy
environment for their workforce, which is crucial for their sustained success and growth. We
need to outline the importance of workplace safety. There are some strategies that can be
employed to safeguard employees and promote a culture of safety within an organization.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT AND GEAR FOR STAFF

Safety equipment is an important thing that a company should provide to an employee.
It's very important to protect employees from injury or illnesses. Besides, it's very important
because there's a lot of accidents happening in the workplace. For example, falling from a high
place or staircase, there was a fire or a chemical explosion, exposed to sharp equipment, stuck
in a machine and more. Wearing safety equipment is a prerequisite for conducting high-risk
tasks. In general, safety equipment is designed to reduce or control the hazards connected with
various activities.
Furthermore, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has
introduced Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to everyone to use it when working at high
risk. Personal protection equipment may include gloves, safety glasses and shoes, earplugs or
muffs, hard helmets, respirators or coveralls, vests, and complete body suits. Therefore, all
personal protective equipment must be designed and built safely. The PPE must also be clean
from bacteria. Besides, the design must be comfortable to wear so that the workers want to
wear it. This is because such personal protective equipment can protect workers safely or
exposed to danger. In addition, employers must provide personal protective equipment to their
employees and ensure proper use. Employers are also required to train each required employee
to use personal protective equipment.
The situation that can be taken is when the COVID-19 outbreak occurred in Malaysia
a few years ago. At that time, doctors and nurses had to do their job even though there were
patients with COVID-19 infection. So, they need to wear personal protective equipment to treat
the patient. For example, they need to wear a PPE that has certain ethics including a surgical
hat, a face shield, gloves, special clothing, a shoe cover and a N95 face mask. Finally, this safe
equipment is very important to all workers so that they are protected from any risk of injury
and health. This could reduce the number of injuries in high-risk jobs in Malaysia.

TRAINING AND EDUCATION
Training means social, physical and mental development of individuals; whereas
development is to make the knowledge and skills of the individuals to be more effective.
(Ozkeser, 2019). Company needs to provide training to staff so they will learn about their
safety. This need to be included training in emergency procedures, proper equipment
maintenance and adherence safety protocol. Training and education are important because
workers need to be train first and learn before they got seated at the workplace so accident will
not happen.
First, company need to send their workers to get training program. At that program they
can learn about many skills such as soft skills, technical skills, communication skills and many
more. This is for their knowledge. The main objective of the program also needs to cover about
the company safety policies, emergency procedures and general workplace hazard. With this
program they can learn new things and they can practice it so they will be careful when they
are doing something. They also need to provide training about emergency preparedness. This
is important because we can prevent from injury if unexpected things happen. For example,
every year the company need to do fire drill so if fire happens, they know how to handle it
without anyone is hurting and panic.
Second, they need to specialize training to people that will conduct with specific hazard
such as handling hazardous materials or operating heavy machinery. We can prevent from any
bad things happen. For example, company send workers that will handle hazard thing to go to
special training. Other than that, company also can send construction workers to go training so
they know how to use danger equipment with safely and know what to do when they are
something unexpected happen. With that we can reduce the numbers of accident that will
happen when they are doing work. Company needs to provide comprehensive safety training
for workers to raise awareness and ensure proper procedures are allowed.

Lastly, the organization also need to do ongoing training for all employees. They need
to inform to employee if anything changes in safety procedures. The organization also must
provide training on new hazards that may arise due to changes in processes, introduction of
new equipment, or modifications to the work environment.

SAFETY POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Safety policies and procedures are essential strategies for ensuring employee and
workplace safety within an organization. These policies establish clear expectations and
guidelines, outlining the responsibilities of both employers and employees, which helps in
maintaining a uniformly safe environment. By adhering to legal and regulatory requirements,
organizations can avoid legal penalties and enhance their reputation. Safety procedures involve
identifying potential hazards and implementing measures to mitigate these risks and ensuring
a proactive approach to workplace safety. Consistency in applying safety practices is achieved
through formalized procedures, ensuring all employees understand and follow the same
protocols.
Moreover, safety policies often include regular training and education for employees
keeping them informed about the latest safety practices and emergency responses. This
preparedness is crucial for effectively handling emergencies and potentially saving lives.
Implementing these policies helps in preventing accidents, reducing the incidence of workplace
injuries, and minimizing associated costs like medical expenses and lost productivity. A strong
emphasis on safety fosters a culture of safety within the organization, where employees are
more likely to adopt safe practices and attitudes. Continuous improvement mechanisms, such
as accident reporting and investigations, allow organizations to learn from past incidents and
enhance their safety measures. Ultimately, a safe work environment boosts employee morale
and productivity, as employees feel secure and valued, positively impacting the overall
performance of the organization.

Other than that, these policies significantly reduce workplace accidents, minimizing
associated costs like medical expenses and lost productivity. By promoting a culture of safety,
organizations can encourage employees to adopt safe practices and attitudes which leading to
a safer overall environment. Continuous improvement mechanisms, such as accident reporting
and investigations, allow organizations to refine their safety measures based on past incidents.
Ultimately, a robust safety framework enhances employee morale and productivity, as a safe
work environment makes employees feel secure and positively influencing the organization’s
overall performance.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS RESPONSE
Emergency preparedness response for staff refers to the plans, procedures, and training
implemented by an organization to ensure that its employees are ready to respond effectively
to emergencies in the workplace. This includes measures such as training employees on
emergency procedures, conducting drills to practice response actions and fostering a culture of
safety and preparedness among staff members. There are few measures of emergency
preparedness and response. Firstly, training employees on emergency procedures. Organize
frequent training sessions for staff members on emergency protocols, such as evacuation routes,
emergency contacts, and protocols for various emergencies such as fires, medical emergencies,
and natural catastrophes. Interactive, scenario-based, and specifically designed to address the
risks encountered in the workplace are all important components of training.
Secondly, conducting drills to practice response actions. Conducting drills to practice
response actions emerges as an indispensable tool, offering a structured approach to honing
skills, refining protocols, and fortifying resilience. Response action drills serve as immersive
learning experiences, providing participants with a simulated environment to confront various
scenarios. Through these simulations, individuals and organizations can familiarize themselves
with the intricacies of response protocols, from initial assessment to coordinated action. By
replicating real-world conditions as closely as possible, drills enable participants to navigate
the complexities of crisis situations with confidence and competence. For example, a fire
evacuation drill in a workplace. This is to assess and enhance the preparedness of employees
for a fire emergency by practicing evacuation procedures, using fire safety equipment, and
ensuring effective communication.
Finally, foster a culture of safety and preparedness among staff members. Fostering a
culture of safety and preparedness among staff members refers to creating an organizational
environment where safety is prioritized and all employees are actively engaged in identifying

and addressing potential hazards, adhering to safety protocols, and being prepared to respond
effectively to emergencies. It involves instilling a mindset where safety is considered an
integral part of everyday operations, and each staff member takes personal responsibility for
their own safety and the safety of others. In practical terms, this means implementing policies,
procedures, and practices that promote safety and preparedness, providing ongoing education
and training to ensure that staff members are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed
to recognize and mitigate risks, establishing clear communication channels for reporting safety
concerns and sharing information, empowering staff members to actively participate in safety
initiatives, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement where safety practices are
regularly reviewed and updated based on feedback and lessons learned.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, maintaining everyone’s safety and the efficiency of operations within
an organization depends on ensuring safety. It is because employee participation in safety
initiatives and choices fosters a sense of accountability and awareness among all. For

example, accidents can be avoided by routinely evaluating and enhancing safety procedures,
as well as by maintaining up-to-date and transparent safety regulations. It is crucial to
recognize possible risks and figure out how to handle them. Other than that, when Human
Resources Management (HRM) provides ongoing safety training, it will keep everyone in an
organization informed and prepared. For example, having strong emergency plans ensures the
organization can respond quickly and effectively if something goes wrong. By making safety
a top priority, organizations can reduce injuries, boost the morale of their employees, and
operate more efficiently. This will make the workplace safer and healthier for everyone.
Implementing effective strategies for ensuring employee and workplace safety is
paramount for any organization committed to fostering a secure and productive work
environment. By prioritizing risk assessment and mitigation, providing comprehensive
training, fostering a culture of safety, and maintaining regular inspections and maintenance,
organizations can significantly reduce workplace hazards. Investing in these strategies not only
protects employees from harm but also cultivates trust, loyalty, and efficiency within the
workforce, ultimately contributing to long-term organizational success and sustainability.
Prioritizing safety is not just a commitment to compliance but a strategic investment in the
health, happiness, and longevity of both employees and the organization.
