Assignment: Group work essay

1. Data description and allocation:

You are given a data set in the excel file named “mult_reg.xlsx”. This data was
collected from the survey to identify the determinants of wages in which
“wages” is the salary of each person in the survey. The other three variables
considered are years of education, years of apprentice trainings in firms and a
different measure for the apprentice trainings. The final variable is Gender in
which value of 1 if Male and 0 for Female. The objective of this assignment is to
consider how wages depends on other factors. You are required to use
regression models to carry out this study.

Data allocation will be based on the list of TEAMS in your class. Each TEAM
will take 200 observations from the whole data set by the following scheme:
The first team from the list takes the first 200 observations from number 1 to
200; the second team takes observations from number 51 to 250, the third team
takes observations 101 to 300 and so on. If the data comes to the end, turn
back from beginning. This scheme will ensure that each of your team has a
different data set and different output.

2. Requirements

You are required to write a formal report for your work that contains the following
sections:
2.1. Introduction of your work
2.2. Reviewing theoretical background on the determinants of wages and
methods for studying this.
2.3. Specifying the linear models wages and ln(wages) on other independent
variables (should we use both trainings in the models and why) and state your
hypothesis (expectation) on the relationship between dependent variable and
each independent variable
2.4. Using descriptive statistics to analyse the data (summary statistics,
scatter plots, correlation matrix)
2.5. Model estimation: show your output, check with your hypothesis, explain
the results, do the test for significance of variables and models.
2.6. Check for the multicollinearity and heteroscedaticity. Modify the model if
needed.
2.7. Make any comments and recommendations.
Deadline for submission: Your representative of your class will compile all
people’s work in one file and send directly to my email
([email protected]) at 12pm (at noon), on the 3rd of December,2024.
