Lesson Plan: Food (Grade 2)

General Information:
 Subject: English
 Grade: 2
 Topic: Food
 Time: 40 minutes
 Lesson Type: Vocabulary and Speaking
 Aims:
o To introduce and practice food vocabulary.
o To develop speaking skills through simple sentences.
o To engage students in interactive activities.

Lesson Structure:
1. Warm-Up (5 minutes)
 Objective: Engage students and prepare them for the lesson.
 Activity:
o Greet the students:
Teacher: "Good morning, class! How are you today?"
Students: "Good morning! I am fine, thank you!"
o Show pictures of different foods (apple, banana, bread, etc.) and ask:
Teacher: "Do you like apples?"
Students: "Yes, I like apples."

2. Presentation (10 minutes)


 Objective: Introduce new vocabulary with visuals.
 Activity:
o Show food flashcards or pictures:
 apple, banana, bread, milk, cheese, rice, fish, egg.
o Say each word aloud and have students repeat:
Teacher: "This is an apple. Repeat: apple."
Students: "Apple!"
o Use gestures or real objects if available for better understanding.

3. Practice (15 minutes)


Activity 1: "Point and Say" (5 minutes)
 Place food pictures on the board or table.
 Say the name of a food and have students point to the correct picture.
 Example:
Teacher: "Where is the banana?"
Students point and say: "Banana!"
Activity 2: Simple Sentences (5 minutes)
 Teach simple sentences:
o "I like apples."
o "I don’t like milk."
 Pair students and let them practice asking and answering:
Student 1: "Do you like rice?"
Student 2: "Yes, I like rice."
Activity 3: Food Matching Game (5 minutes)
 Give students cards with food pictures and their names.
 They must match the picture to the correct word.

4. Production (7 minutes)
Activity: "What’s in the Bag?"
 Put real or toy food items in a bag.
 Each student takes out one item and says its name.
Example:
Student pulls out an apple and says: "It is an apple."
 For advanced practice, students can add: "I like apples."

5. Wrap-Up (3 minutes)
 Review the food vocabulary by showing flashcards and having students shout the names.
 Praise the students:
Teacher: "Great job, everyone! What food do you like the most?"
 Assign homework:
o "Draw your favorite food and write its name."
Materials Needed:
 Food flashcards or pictures
 Real or toy food items
 Matching cards with food names and pictures
 A bag for the "What's in the Bag?" activity
