SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 9

I. Objectives:
a. Identify the parts of the respiratory system.
b. Describe the function of the different parts of the respiratory
system.

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: Parts of the Respiratory System
Subtopic: How each part of the respiratory system
works.
Concept: Nose-gateway of the respiratory system.
Pharynx/Throat-Narrow space located right after the mouth and the
nose.
Larynx/Voice box-Organ that connects pharynx and trachea.
Trachea-Narrow and cylindrical tube.
Bronchi-trachea splits into two bronchi which insert to the lungs.
Bronchi Trees-subdivision of bronchi inside the lungs.
Bronchioles-connected to air sacs.
Lungs- a cone shaped organs.
Air sacs-Functioning system of the lungs.
Alveoli-inhaled oxygen passes through it and then diffuses into
capillaries.
Diaphragm-Sheeth of smooth muscle located below the lungs.

2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
Review of the Past Lesson
What is the different organ
system in our body that you
have discussed in grade 8?
How each system works in
the human body?

B. Motivation
Class, let us do
some breathing
exercise, Please
feel the air as it
moves from your
nose down to your
diaphragm down
to your lungs, and
out of the lungs to
the nose. What do
you feel?

C. Activity
I Pre- activity - Discussion of the objective of the activity -
Presentation of the materials (The materials must be assigned to
the students to bring to the class depending on the availability of
the material in their respective local place and should be given
ahead of time)
Either of the following: lato, igot, bunga (niyog-niyugan),
lansones.
Unlocking of difficulties - Discussion of procedure.
II Activity Proper (students will perform the activity with the
guidance of the teacher)

D. Analysis
I. The students will be asked to compare the parts of the materials
they brought with the parts of the respiratory system.
II. The students will be asked to determine the function of the
different parts of the respiratory system.
IV. Each group will be asked to present their output.

E. Abstraction
1. How does each part of the material you bring represent, in
relation to the breathing system?
2. How will you describe the pathway of oxygen in the breathing
system?
3. What will happen if one of the parts of the system fail to
function?

F. Application What do you feel when you have a cold? Do all other
parts of the system affect? How?

G. Generalization
1. What are the parts of the respiratory system?
2. Describe the function of each part of the breathing system.

H. Evaluation
Direction: Answer the questions below:
1. What do you call the bigger branch represented by the model?
2. What part of the respiratory system represents the fruit in the
model?
3. Part of the respiratory system that allows gas exchange.
4. Branching tubes that connects the trachea to the lungs.
5. Part of the respiratory system where gas enters and filtered.

Assignment:
1. How do we take good care of our respiratory system?
2. What is circulatory system?
