(1 min)

T welcomes S and ask S to introduce himself/ herself.

Then, T introduces the lesson and the goals of the lesson.

Test-taking strategies for word formation questions

Example: The _____ was very nervous. (sing)

Steps to do:

Read the sentence carefully to understand the context and meaning

Identify the type of word needed based on the position of the blank. This may be a noun,

verb, adjective, or adverb.

Determine the type of the given word and possible prefixes/suffixes

Combine the base word and prefixes/suffixes to create a new word that fits the context

Guess if unsure and check answers carefully when finished

(5 mins)

T introduces: In a sentence or text you have to change the form of a word, e.g. from a noun to
an adjective, or from a verb to a noun.

T goes through the steps and analyses the example.

1. Read the sentence or phrase carefully to understand the context and the meaning.
2. The word we have to change is a verb
3. We need a noun in the blank (noun comes after an article)
4. To form a noun from a verb, we need to add a suffix. Though the context, we see that we
need a noun indicating a person.
5. The word we need is singer

READING
Read the passage. Circle the best answer A, B, or C to each of the questions.
The biggest difference between an eco-lodge and a green hotel is the setting in which you'll find them. Eco lodges tend to be more
remote, located in relatively pristine natural environments such as beaches, jungles, and mountains. Green hotels, on the other hand, are
more often associated with cities and towns.

Both eco lodges and green hotels stress things like taking care of the environment and causing as little harm as possible. The best ones
offer renewable energy sources, recycling services, eco-friendly toiletries, energy efficient lighting, locally sourced food, organic linens
and towels, non-toxic cleaning supplies, non-disposable dishes, water conservation methods, and various other
sustainability-focused initiatives.

But eco lodges tend to be more dependent on the natural environment than green hotels. They are also usually more involved in
protecting nature and wildlife, more focused on teaching visitors about the flora and fauna of local ecosystems, and more connected to
the native culture of the area (which is often reflected in the lodge's decor and restaurant menu).

The best eco lodges also work to ensure positive relationships with the locals. They train and employ them at fair wages, take part in
community development initiatives, offer activities that help visitors conserve and appreciate local customs, and contribute to the local
economy. In this way, they reinforce the notion of ecotourism as a more sustainable long-term business model than altering or
destroying habitats for quick financial gains.

33. The passage mainly discusses ________.

A. what eco lodges do to the environment C. how eco lodges are similar to green hotels
B. what eco lodges are and how they work D. how eco lodge are better than green hotels 28

in relatively pristine natural environments such as beaches, jungles, and mountains. Green hotels, on the other hand, are more often associated with
cities and towns.

Both eco lodges and green hotels stress things like taking care of the environment and causing as little harm as possible. The best ones offer
renewable energy sources, recycling services, eco-friendly toiletries, energy efficient lighting, locally sourced food, organic linens and towels,
non-toxic cleaning supplies, non-disposable dishes, water conservation methods, and various other sustainability-focused initiatives.

But eco lodges tend to be more dependent on the natural environment than green hotels. They are also usually more involved in protecting nature
and wildlife, more focused on teaching visitors about the flora and fauna of local ecosystems, and more connected to the native culture of the area
(which is often reflected in the lodge's decor and restaurant menu).

The best eco lodges also work to ensure positive relationships with the locals. They train and employ them at fair wages, take part in community
development initiatives, offer activities that help visitors conserve and appreciate local customs, and contribute to the local economy. In this way,
they reinforce the notion of ecotourism as a more sustainable long-term business model than altering or destroying habitats for quick financial gains.
