LAB ASSIGNMENT 1

Project Description

To evaluate your scheduling and project management skills through Primavera P6, you are
expected to initiate, plan, and control a Medium level construction project in this semester. This
can be a Dam, Highway, Motorway section, Power plant, Factory, Commercial Space, Office
Space Building, Multi-Story residential building etc. You will present your work during
conclusion stage of your semester along with written report submission.

Task Description of Lab Assignment 01:

Initially, in this task, you are expected to select a Project from above mentioned categories. As part
of this assignment, you will have to conceptualize your project’s scope, major objectives and
deliverables. Additionally, you will also provide information related to available duration for the
project, available financial resources with client, and available manpower and machinery resources
with contractor.

Start with conceptualizing your organization and its resources, state its organizational goals/
objectives. Conceptualize need for a project that is well aligned with your organizational goal.
After this, provide description of your project (follow the project charter flow for that and include
details such as scope, need, required time, anticipated budget, key stakeholders etc.). After
providing description of your project, list down all the available resources with your organization
that will be ultimately used on your project.

Points to Remember for Lab Assignment 01:

➢ This is a group task, hence only one submission per group is required. Write down your
group member’s names and CMS id’s on cover page as well as identify the group leader
on the cover page. You will perform all project activities and submissions as part of the
same group. A group can be composed of maximum 5 students.
➢ Be realistic in your provided information, no contractor will have 200 excavators.
➢ Be specific, don’t overwrite this descriptive task. Ideally, a normal assignment based on
above description should be around 3 single side pages.
➢ Plan your project completion duration and available man/machinery resources in a way
which allow further resource leveling/crashing (processes through which you accelerate
project completion from originally planned completion).
➢ Deadline for Lab Assignment 01 is Next Lab Class (For Sec C: Nov 12th 2024 & For Sec
D: Nov 14th 2024). Assignment submission venue is Primavera Computer Lab. Marks will
be deducted for late submission.
