Exercise 1 - Adobe Photoshop

Activity 1: Removing background using Quick Selection Tool

1. Open flower.jpg in Adobe Photoshop

2. Duplicate the background layer

3. Remove the background of the image by using Quick Selection Tool

4. Refine the area by using Quick Selection (New Selection, Add to Selection and Subtract from
Selection) on the Option Bar
5. Refine the edge by (Select > Modify > Smooth) and set the sample radius to 3 pixels

6. Select (ctrl+x) to remove the background

7. Crop the picture using Crop Tool


8. Delete the background layer. (You are now only having the Background copy layer)
9. Open red.jpg in Adobe Photoshop

10. Drag the background copy layer into red.jpg document

11. Adjust the position of the flower using Move Tool and lastly save the file
Activity 2: Text Effect using Type Tool

1. Open sunset.jpg in Adobe Photoshop

2. Add new layer and select Horizontal Type Tool

3. Type the word “Sunset”. You can change the font, size and color on the Option Bar

4. Select (ctrl+t) to adjust the text

5. Select Normal menu on layer tab and choose Soft Light


6. Select ctrl key and click on text layer, then click Select > Inverse
7. Select Adjustment layer, choose Solid Color and click Ok

8. Select Color Fill 1 layer and set the opacity to 45%


9. Select Layer thumbnail on the Layer tab and choose color on Color Picker window
10. Finally save the file
Exercise 1.
● Choose three (3) role models from the internet
● Remove the background of the images using Quick Selection Tool
● Put all the (removed background) images in the frame.jpg
● Save your file as rolemodels.psd and export the file in PNG format

Exercise 2.
● Open cover.jpg in Adobe Photoshop
● Create a cover for a new magazine on the subject of teen sport
● Select appropriate text font to create eye-catching headings that will appeal to teen readers
● Save your file as cover.psd and export the file in PNG format
