1.2 Function Description of the Product

1.2.1 Mechanical
Each of the door drives has a similar mode of operation whereby the doors are opened and closed using a
wheel gear, a crank wheel and one or two door levers (refer to Fig. 3). The description below uses the
QKS9-1CT as an example. Refer to relevant drawings for other product information.
The door motor 2 drives the crank wheel 3 via a wheel gear 1 . The crank wheel 3 opens and closes
the car door panels 8 by operating either one or two large door levers 5 , small door levers 7 and
connecting rods 4 . The doors are mechanically locked closed with a coupler operating bar 6 and a

Magnetic switches monitor the position of the car door panels during opening and closing to make sure of
correct and smooth operation.
1.2.2 Electrical (refer to Fig. 1)
The three-phase a.c. motor, which powers the door drive, has both working and braking windings (an eddy
current brake) which make sure of correct and smooth opening, closing and braking of the car doors. The
door opening and closing speed is adjusted by varying the direct current to the braking winding of the door
motor. Control of braking during door opening and closing is made by varying the direct--current to the eddy

The door position signals (e.g. KMT-A, KBT2-O, KBT-S and KET-O -- the location of the magnetic sensors and
their respective signal terms is shown in Fig. 3) and driver signals VST-O, VST-S, VRVRT and VRMGH are
input to a printed circuit board QKS 910.Q which controls the operation of the door drive using a
Programmable Array Logic (PAL). The PAL uses these input signals and the door position signals to control
the operation of the door drive.
Control signals ST-O, ST-S, BT-O, BT-S and VRT are voltage inputs to the analog switch which provides a
potentiometer adjustable current to the door drive eddy-current brake (through a power transistor and a linear
regulator). The 80 VDC drive voltage for the eddy-current brake (BIT) is obtained from a transformer (TT)
which is situated in the control box.
The mains voltage is provided to the working winding of the three phase a.c. motor, two phases of which are
switched on and off by signals ST-O and ST-S using a solid state switch. The 5 VDC for the logic and the
12 VDC for the regulator and the solid state switch are generated by a DC/DC converter from a voltage supply
at P01.
Access to switches for a door inspection check and for the emergency brake switch is through a cut-out in
the door drive panel. The emergency brake switch is also used as a mains switch (when it is operated the
supply voltages P01, L1, L2 and L3 are cut).

1.3 Technical Characteristics, Range of Application

The QKS9-1 / QKS10-1 door drives are designed for use with automatic horizontal sliding doors, for both the
hoistway and the car.
The QKS9-1 is primarily for use as a passenger elevator but may also be used for goods. The QKS10-1 is
for use only as a goods elevator.
D QKS9-1 T/TC/CT type door drive only be used with the car type P9K/P10K.
D QKS9-1 T/C type door drive only be used with the W8K type car (with GQ less than or equal to 1 600 kg).
D QKS10-1 CT only be used with the W8K car.
The door drive interface is designed to meet the Miconic SX, TX and VX control requirements. Other controls

5.4 Installation of the Car Doors

Note: The following procedures are provided as an example.

The procedures may be done differently.

1. Clean the tracks of the door drive and the cabin sill. Lightly oil the track surfaces.
2. Attach the guide shoes on the door panels.
3. Position one of the door panels (with T type doors select the slower door) on the car sill on a shim of height
5 mm.
4. Slide the rollers into the track at the correct position. Bolt the rollers on to the door panel (make sure that
lock washers are installed on both sides of the door hanger roller).
5. With the QKS9-1 and QKS10-1 door drives, make sure the air gap between the door panel and the
entrance upright is 6 mm. If this distance is >6 mm: insert additional lock washers between the door
panel and the door hanger roller. If the distance is <6 mm, readjust the car enclosure correctly. Check
also that the distance between the tip of the baseplate and the door panel has a nominal distance of
6 mm.
6. Remove the 5 mm shim between the cabin sill and the door panel. Make sure that the air gap of 6 mm
remains between the door panel and the upright. If the distance is not 6 mm, adjust the guide shoes with
the shims supplied.
7. Adjust the door panel to the entrance frame.
8. Mount the second door panel as detailed above.
9. With C type and CT type door panels, make sure that the closing edges of the door panels are parallel.

5.6 Adjustment of the Hoistway Doors

Note: For detailed instructions refer to K 600 657 to K 600 660.

1. The door locking bolt must be horizontal and must have some free play.
2. When the contact is interrupted, the locking bar must still be engaged by 7 mm.
3. Hold a plumb line to the coupler. Make sure that there is a distance of 17 mm between the plumb line
and the car sill. If this distance is not achieved:
-- Accurately align the car to the hoistway.
-- Check the air gap between the car enclosure and the car door and if needed adjust the guide shoes.
-- Adjust coupler with shims.

Note: The following instructions only need

to be followed when a door lock setting gage is not available.

4. Adjust the roller engagement in the coupler tongues to 9 mm.

5. Refer to Fig. 10 and adjust the lock case in such a way that the fixed roller has a 10 mm clearance and
the unlocking roller has a clearance of 8 mm between the compressed coupler tongues (make sure that
the hoistway door does not move).

6.4 Setting of the Door Speed

Note: Applicable national and local regulations and laws take priority over the door speed
instructions below.

1. If there is a requirement for a generally slow moving door drive: exchange the connections X11 and X12
on the printed circuit board QKS 910.Q. Make sure that the door drive is disconnected for these
adjustments (LED’s 80 V and 24 V are not lit).

Note: Point 2. to point 7. should be carried out if necessary with the hoistway doors coupled.
Adjustment of the hoistway door locks is to be carried out in accordance with the
Technical Catalog.

2. Setting of the reduced door speed (Final/Timer):

-- Install the test connector in to x1-2-1.
-- Press the ’! z’ and the ’z !’ buttons to close and open the door. The door speed is adjusted
with potentiometer VRT.
3. Setting of the door opening speed:
-- Remove the test connector from x1-2-1.
-- Press the ’! z’ button and ’z !’ button to close and open the door. The door opening speed
is adjusted with potentiometer ST-O. If possible, set the door opening to full speed.
4. Setting of the door braking during opening:
-- Carry out point 3. first. Adjust the braking force with potentiometer BT-O. The timing of the braking
action is adjusted by KBT-O.
-- The final door braking must be short and moderate.
5. Setting of the door closing speed:
-- The door closing speed is adjusted with potentiometer ST-S.
-- If the eddy-current brake has to be applied too strongly, the door motor may overheat. A slower door
speed should then be chosen. Restart with point 1.
6. Setting of final braking during closing:
-- Carry out point 5. first.
-- The final braking is adjusted with potentiometer BT-S. This braking effect goes on throughout the whole

locking process.
-- The final braking during closing has to be harmonized during locking to avoid noise.
-- The operation of the braking action is adjusted with KBT-S.
7. Setting during door coupling and uncoupling:
-- The speed is already adjusted by potentiometer BT-O.
-- Selection of high speed is achieved with switch KBT2-O.
-- If BT-O is altered, check point 4. above.
