Lecture 1 date 14/09/23

Computer: computer is a device which takes input from the user and then
processes it according to the instruction given it and gives us output or
information

Input: anything given to the computer inform of data and instruction is called
input

Processing : A set of different steps to perform in an order to attain the


different objectives is called processing

Output: anything given by the computer of information is called output


Input device: Input Device Definition: A piece of equipment/hardware which
helps us enter data into a computer is called an input device. For example
keyboard, mouse, etc.
Output Device Definition: A piece of equipment/hardware which gives out
the result of the entered input, once it is processed (i.e. converts data from
machine language to a human-understandable language), is called an output
device. For example printer, monitor, etc. Other Related Links.

Software: Is a set of instruction given to computer to solve a particular


problem software tells the computer to what to do hardware performs that take
software cannot be executed without hardware and hardware cannot perform
any task without software

hardware: the computer's tangible components or delivery systems that


store and run the written instructions provided by the software.

Entity: anything about which data is gathered is called entity and entity can be
a person a place or thing

Data: A collection of raw facts and figure about an entity is called data

Information: the processed data is called information


Storage device : the device that store data is called storage device there are
two type of storage devices permanent storage device and temporally storage
device

Parmanent storage device : a type of computer memory that retains


stored data even when the power is turned off example hard disk micro sd
card and usb

Temporary storage device : temporary memory, which is typically erased


when the power is turned off, permanent storage can hold onto its data
indefinitely. Example ROM and RAM

RAM: random access memory

Type of software : there are two type of software

 System software
 Application software
System software: the software that used to control and manage the operation
and working of all hardware components is called system software example
operating system device and device driver utility programs

Application software: IS USED FOR VARIOUS APPLIACTION ON THE


COMPUTER THERE ARE TWO TYPE OF APPLICATION SOFTWARE
 Customize application software
 Package software
Customize application software : the software that is design to meet the
requirements of a particular person or a organization

Package software: the software that design for the common fields is package
software and its available for sale to general public example Ms office

Keyboard
TAB KEY: is used to move the cursor to the tab or step
Capslock: the key used for capital alphabet and it also toggle key
Shift key: Is used to combination with other keys to execute different
commands

CRTL: is used with other keys in combination to perform command


ENTER: can used to move the cursor to the next line
Backspace: is used to remove the single character on the left side of cursor
Function keys :they perform different function in different software

MS WORD
MS word is for processing word and writing and deleting or modifying is
called word processing there are two type of word
 Simple text processor
 Full feature word processor

Simple text processor: cut copy paste undo redo e.g. notepad and WordPad
Full feature word processor:

Title bar : the title bar misplaced the title of current document and application
name

Quick access toolbar: the commands that are most frequently used are
placed on quick access toolbar we can customize the quick access toolbar

Dialogbox: Every tab have a ribbon attach and every ribbon have groups and
every group have commands

List : is not countious


Range: is countinous
Portrait orientation: is vertical page
Landscape orientation : is a horizontal page
By defult the page in ms word is letter size

Mergain: the white space around your text is called margin every side is 1 inch
from every side
Crtl+C = COPY
CRTL+X = CUT
CRTL+V = PASTE

Font: the appearance of text on page is called font or type face


Formatic of text: the every change we do on font is formatic of text

Alignment: the position of text on page is called alignment there are four type
of alignment

Left alignment: the text will be on the left margin


Right alignment: the text will be on the right margin
Line spacing: the space between the lines are line spacing
Paragraph spacing: the space between two paragraphs is paragraph spacing
by default there is 1.15 inch space

Indentation: the gap between first word and margin is indentation.


Indentation can be increase and decrease

Boarders: you can add boarder is documents and can be used in home tab

Inserted tab: inserted tab is basically a coverpage


Pagebreak: it is used for break the page
Charts: numerical data can be draw in charts
Hyperlink: it is used to go to other links
Bookmark: the name any portion and paragraph is called bookmark

Header: header is display on the top of everypage


Footer: footer is display on the last of every page
Footnote: the small note is on the last of every page
End note: is on the last page of every documents
Dropcap: the first alphabet is increase in size on first paragraph page is
dropcap

Network: A collection of two or more device that are connected in order to


share information and resources is called network

Resources: software and hardware is considers as a resources


LAN: local area network is used to connect less than two buildings e.g. Wi.fi
MAN: metropolitan area network e.g. bank network
WAN: wide area network use to connect whole world e.g. internet
Websites: websites is collection of web page
WWW: world Wide Web
Email: IS a electronic email is used for send text and file within minute
There are two main part of cpu
ALU: arithmetic logic unit oversees the logarithmic

CU: control unit act like a supervisor oversee the progress of data

Green: is for grammar check

Virus: the software to damage user pc is bad set of instruction
Infected file: the file attacked by th virus is infected file

Range: A group of continuous cell is called range
