COURSE OUTCOMES
Students will be able to
1.Understand the concepts of digital logic and number systems.
2. Apply the concepts of Boolean algebra and binary operations to solve complex problems.
3. Apply the concept of Boolean Algebra to construct Combinational logic circuits
4. Analyze the concept of Sequential logic circuit.
5. Design Asynchronous and Synchronous Counters using JK, D and T flip-flops.

UNIT -1- (08 Hrs)
Introduction to Digital Logic and Number Systems: Definitions for Digital signals, Digital Waveforms,
Digital Logic, Moving and storing Digital information, Digital operations, Binary number system, Binary to
Decimal Conversion, Decimal to Binary Conversion, Octal Numbers, Hexadecimal numbers.

The Basic Gates – NOT, OR, AND, Universal Logic Gates – NOR, NAND, AND-OR_INVERT Gates,
Positive and Negative Logic

UNIT -2- (08 Hrs)


Boolean Algebra and Binary Operations: Boolean Laws and Theorems, Sum-of-Products method,
Truth Table to Karnaugh Map, Pairs, Quads and Octets, Karnaugh Simplifications, Don,t care
conditions, Product-of-Sums method, Product-of-Sums simplification, Simplification by Quine-
McClusky Method

Binary Addition, Binary Subtraction, Unsigned Binary numbers, 2’s Complement Representation, 2’s
Complement Arithmetic, Arithmetic Building blocks

Introduction to sequential circuits:
Counters: Binary Ripple counters, Synchronous Binary Counters, Design of Synchronous counters.

Synchronous sequential networks:
Mealy and Moore models, Classification of Mealy md Moore Models, State Machine Notation, Problem on
