Practical-1
Find the surface area of the given cubic/cuboidal object (brick,
box packet etc.).
Object: Our objective is to find the TSA(Total Surface Area) of
the given cubic/cuboidal object.
Materials Required: Given object, scale, writing tools
Diagram:

Theory: Total Surface Area is the whole area of the object’s

surface. We will find the TSA of given object by using the
formula.
Formula: TSA of cube of side a = 6a2
TSA of cuboid of length l, breadth b and height
h = 2(lb+bh+hl)
Calculation: Let say that the object is a cube of side 20cm, then
it’s TSA will be:
= 6a2
= 6(20)2
= 6(400)

3
= 2400 cm²
Or we have a cuboidal object of length 15cm, breadth 13cm and
height 20 cm then it’s TSA will be
= 2(lb+bh+hl)
= 2( 15 × 13 +13 ×20 + 20×15 )
= 2( 195 + 260 + 300 )
= 2(755)
= 1510 cm²
Result: Therefore TSA of cube = 2400 cm²
TSA of cuboid = 1510 cm²
Observation: Through this activity, we have observed that the
Total Surface Area of a cuboid is calculated by adding area of
each surface of Cuboid and similarly with cube.
Conclusion: We can conclude from above activity that we will
be able to calculate the TSA of given object if it is the form of a
cube or a cuboid.
Precautions: 1) Calculation should be done properly.
2) No errors should be in Calculation.
3) Always write units.
4) Measure the object carefully and properly.
Comments: In this way, we can find the Total Surface Area of a
given cubic or cuboidal object. While performing the activity,

4
above precautions should be taken and this is also the easiest way
to find TSA of given object.

Practical-2
Find the volume of the given cubic/cuboidal object (brick, box,
packet etc.)
Object: Our objective is to find the volume of given
cubic/cuboidal object.
Materials Required: Given object, Scale, writing tools
Diagram:

Theory: Volume is the amount of space that something contains

or fills. We can find the volume of given object by using it’s pre-
derived formulas.
Formula: Volume of Cube- a³, where a is the side of cube.
Volume of Cuboid- lbh, where l,b,h are length, breadth
and height of cuboid respectively.
Calculation: Let us say that side of a cube is 12 cm.
Therefore = a³

5
= (12)³
= 1728 cm³
Let us say that l,b and h of a cuboid are 4cm, 6cm and 5cm
respectively.
Therefore = lbh
=4×6×5
= 120 cm³
Result: Volume of Cube = 1728 cm³
Volume of Cuboid = 120 cm³
Observation: Through this activity, we have observed that the
volume of cube is the product of its area of one surface and it’s
side. The volume of Cuboid is the product of its length, breadth
and height.
Precautions: Following Precautions must be followed while
performing this activity:
1) Calculation should be done properly.
2) Calculation should be error-free.
3) Always write units.
4) Measure the object carefully.
Conclusion: From the above activity, we can conclude that by
the given method we can find the volume of given cubic/cuboidal
object by its formula. Above precautions must be followed
otherwise the result will be incorrect.

6
Comments: In this way, we can find the volume of a cube or
cuboid by using its formula, and also this is the easiest way to find
its volume.

Diagram:

Theory: Total Surface Area is the whole area of the object’s

surface. We will find the TSA of given object by using the
formula.
Formula: TSA of a right circular cylinder = 2 r( r + h), where r
is the base radius and h is height.
Calculation: Let say that the base radius of cylinder is 14 cm and
it’s height is 7 cm. Therefore,
= 2 r( r + h)

7
= 2×(22/7)×14[ 14 +7 ]
=44×2[ 21 ]
=88×21
=1848 cm²
Result: The TSA of given cylindrical object = 1848 cm².

and its slant height is 10 cm.
= rl
= 22/7 × 7 × 10
= 22 × 10

11
= 220 cm²
Result: Therefore, the CSA of given object is 220 cm².
Observation: Through this activity, we have observed that the
volume of a right circular cone is the product of its base radius,
slant height and pi ( ). We can find the CSA by this formula.
