BUSM 6110 – Individual Work Assignment#1

Due Date As Set on Moodle

Purpose:
The purpose of this post-graduate level work assignment is:
 To develop, enhance and demonstrate comprehension skills and active learning
 To understand and retain information and knowledge via reflective writing
 To demonstrate learning outcomes from the course
 To research, evaluate, practice, and learn about Project Management software tools

Assignment Format:
To be evaluated, each submission must be made in Microsoft Word document format via Moodle.
Do not leave this individual work until the last week or day before the due date. You must progress on this assignment
and work regularly at least 3 - 4 hours per week on this project.

Please read the instructions carefully and complete all 3 parts:

I. Create a weekly reflections journal and write about your learning from your textbook readings on
Chapters 1 to 8 (inclusive). This part of the individual assignment work will prepare you for your
quizzes and the mid-term exam, as your course progresses. Do not copy paste material from the class
slides. You can think/reflect, research, analyze, evaluate, and write your journal in your own words.
Read the required textbook chapters. Learn actively about project management concepts/topics by
thinking and writing about them in your own words based on your reflections and thoughts on the topics
presented in your textbook. Think, reflect and see if you have observed or applied the topics/concepts in
your work or at school. You can also address the following questions: What information/topic presented
in the textbook resonated with you with respect to your current work or real life? Or you can analyze the
topic, and provide your thoughts, views, and opinion relevant to the topic/concept covered. Remember
do not leave this part until the last minute, perform this task and this part of the assignment regularly on
weekly basis in order to be ready and well prepared for your tests and exam. You may write ½ or 1 page
per Chapter.
(You can start working on this part immediately. As soon as a chapter is covered in class you must read
the textbook and write your reflection in your journal document that you will need to submit the final
file by the due date set on Moodle)
[60 Marks]

II. Create a Work Breakdown Structure for a remarkable project of your choice. Complete this part after
Session#4, or when Chapter 5 - Scope Management is covered in class. (Refer to the required textbook
for more information. Make sure the last level of your WBS contains action verbs and tasks that require
execution/action).

Submit your work on Moodle in MS Word format

NOTE: For writing your reflections (Part I), first you need to read the textbook chapter, summarize on key
points or concepts and what you've learned from the textbook and which you've experienced in your work or
life. You can also write about what you talked with your friend/peer regarding the chapter you both read and
what you discussed, and what were your views and opinion

Follow the guidelines/instructions on the assignment and learn about how to write a reflection and learn
actively from the link:
https://www.kpu.ca/sites/default/files/Learning%20Centres/Write_ReflectiveWriting_LA_0.pdf

There is no right or wrong answer for the reflective writing part of the assignment. However, it is imperative
that students read the textbook and actively learn from it. There is no word limit, you can write one or two
paragraphs for each chapter that you read up to one page per chapter, while writing your reflections. Do not
summarize the lecture slides. The main objective of reflective writing part of the assignment is to get the
students engaged in reading, active learning and thinking.

You can refer to the link below to learn about active learning methodology:
