The Very Happy And Not At All Horrible Story Of Thanos

Thanos was born on Titan, one of the moons of Saturn, where a population of Eternals
lived under the surface. He was the son of Mentor (leader of this group of Eternals and
Sui-San). He was born with Deviant Syndrome, which is why he is purple and has that
chin.

The details are unclear (there are several stories with different reasons) but at some point
Thanos fell in love (more accurate description is obsessed) with Death. Not just in
making things die and killing (but that too) but with the personification of death. He
eventually left Titan and came back years later as the leader of a fleet of mercenaries and
pirates, bombing Titan with nuclear bombs and killing a good chunk of the population
including his own mother.

Over the years Thanos has had many plans to either kill large populations at once for
Death and/or gain great power both for his own satisfaction and in order to make him
Death's equal, the better to stand beside her. He attempted to possess the Cosmic Cube (a
devise that could make any wish come true) to become God but was defeated by Captain
Marvel. He also had a plan to use the Soul Gems (more on them later) in order to wipe
out stars one at a time. He was stopped by the Avengers, Adam Warlock, Captain
Marvel, The Thing and Spider-Man. Adam Warlock died during this but came back
briefly in order to transform Thanos into stone, killing him as well.

Or so everyone thought.

Eventually, Death brought Thanos back. Death felt that there were more living beings
than had ever died and did not like that. In order to do the job properly, Thanos delved
into the Soul Gems and learned their true power. Each gem could actually control a
different aspect of the Universe/Life- Space, Time, Power, Reality, Mind and the Soul.
Putting them all together would make someone all-powerful and he tricked, stole and
murdered to get the gems away from their current owners, making himself more of a god
then he even was with the Cosmic Cube.

Pretty much everyone possible, including a reborn Adam Warlock and Death (who felt
that Thanos was now at a level higher than her) opposed him and he eventually lost his
“Infinity Gauntlet”. Having access to the time stream, Thanos actually knew this was
going to happen.

He faked his death and went to live on a planet alone, a simple farmer. But fate has a
way of bringing him back into conflict. Because of his nature, Thanos is a unique being
in the cosmos and one of the few beings whose actions cannot always be predicted by
cosmic entities. Sometimes he is a force for evil. Sometimes he fights on the side of
good (when it benefits him, but never trust him).

Over the years, he has built up his personal power through science, magic and even body
modification. As an Eternal he is very long lived (at least a thousand years old) and very
hard to kill.
