Personal computer has advanced a lot in a short period of time, and
much of the advancement is due to ongoing progresses in operating
systems. Evolution of operating systems had made PCs easier to use
and understand, flexible and reliable. This chapter is the study of
primary operating systems currently used in personal computers and
network servers, and their basic features.
This topic presents a broad survey of concepts and terminologies
related to operating systems like: Basics of operating system, user
interface, basic settings of operating system, file & directory
management, and types of files.

Features and various versions of GUI OS & its use

Features of GUIs include: They are much easier to use for beginners.
...
Good user interfaces

would move the mouse pointer to the program's icon and double-click it.

My computer and recycle bin

The Recycle Bin acts a 'holding bay' for deleted items, such as files and
folders (and even shortcuts!). When you delete a file or folder, it is not
deleted from your computer permanently. Instead, Windows 7 places
the deleted items into the Recycle Bin.

menu.
 Right-click and drag the Internet Explorer icon from the Start menu
to your desktop, and then click Create Shortcuts Here, or click Copy

Screen description & working style of GUI OS

The graphical user interface (GUI /dʒiːjuːˈaɪ/ gee-you-eye or /ˈɡuːi/) is
a form of user interface that allows users to interact with electronic
devices through graphical icons and audio indicator such as primary
notation, instead of text-based user interfaces, typed command labels or
text navigation.

Dialog boxes & toolbar

Type of modeless dialog box is a toolbar which is either separate from
the main application, or may be detached from the main application, and
items in the toolbar can be used to select certain features or functions
of the application.

Working with files & folders

To open File Explorer, click the File Explorer icon on the taskbar, or
double-click any folder on your desktop. A new File Explorer window will
appear. Now you're ready to start working with your files and folders.
From File Explorer, double-click a folder to open it.
Simple operation like copy, delete, moving of
files and folders from one drive to
another,shortcuts & auto start.

Sometimes you will need to move a file from one folder to another, or
copy a file from one folder to another, leaving the file in the first location
and placing a copy of it in the second. You can move or copy a file or
folder using a variety of methods. If the file or folder and the location
where you want to move it are visible in a window or on the desktop, you
can simply drag the item from one location to the other. Moving a file or
folder on the same disk relocates it whereas dragging it from one disk to
another copies it so that it appears in both locations. When the
destination folder or drive is not visible, you can use the Cut (to move),
Copy, and Paste commands on the Edit menu to move or copy the
items.
