The Comprehensive Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) in Basic Education
Framework, DepEd Order No. 37, series 2015, was issued by the Department of Education to direct
DRRM efforts in the basic education sector toward resilience-building in offices and schools and to
guarantee that high-quality education is consistently offered and given priority even during
emergencies and disasters.
In response to this, San Nicolas Elementary School convened the Technical Working Group,
Barangay Captain, and DRRM Barangay Coordinator to hold the 2024 School-Level Writeshop
Contingency/Enhanced Contingency Planning for disaster management and readiness.
The training started with participant registration at 8:00 a.m. on November 19, 2024, with the
help of the School DRRM Coordinator. The National Anthem was also sung to show love for the
nation, and an AV presentation-led prayer was used to get the creator's blessing for the session's
success. The aforementioned instruction began at precisely 8:45 a.m. m. and our Teacher-in-Charge,
Mrs. Jenifer R. Ayangco, is set to be the speaker for the day. Her first topic is the Comprehensive
Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) in Basic Education Framework, DepEd Order No.
37, series 2015, which is highly significant in our community and school. It provides participants with
information and understanding on disaster risk reduction policies and techniques to manage residual
risk, avoid new disaster risk, and reduce existing disaster risk, all of which help to increase resilience
and lower disaster losses. It ended at 10:03 a.m. and to take a break. At 10:30 a.m. Ma’am Jenifer R.
Ayangco then moves on to her next topic, which is Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment
(HIRAC) in the Revisiting Contingency Plan Handbook 2020. She outlines how to conduct a risk
assessment in order to determine whether workplace dangers pose a liability. When evaluating a risk,
one must consider the possible outcomes and the probability of a hazard occurring. A risk assessment
can assist you in determining the degree of risk. The discussion came to an end at 12:07 p.m. At 12:07
p.m., the lunch break began. and at 1:00 p.m., the participant's writeshop proper started. The speaker
provides the printed materials that the attendees will need for the workshop activity. She separated it
into two groups, each with four people. Around 3:00 p.m. is another break time. At 3:30 p.m., the
writeshop continued. Following their accomplishment, the group presented what they had created to
other groups, and vice versa. At the training session, both groups are actively participating and
interacting.
It became clear at the end of the day that the training was significant and that this
contingency plan was meant for all parties involved, including pupils, teachers, GPTA members,
SELG officers, barangay officials, district officials, and members of the school Disaster Risk
Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC). When upcoming threats threaten the school, these
people will be essential in warning, mitigating the damage, being prepared, and responding to
emergencies.
