SEMESTER-1

SUBJECT NAME – HISTORY-I


SUBJECT CODE – 1015107

EMPHASIS:

Investigation in history in relation with designs – typological rather the stylistic approach in
history of design.
To understand the importance of civilizations and its relevance in Architecture, Design and
Art.

CONTENT:
 Study (introduction) and design history of various eras/ periods
 Pre historic and its indigenous designs – Indus valley civilizations, Mesopotamia
 Ancient cultures - Egypt, Greece and Rome.
 Study of India from Gupta and Maurya period to pro‐Islamic medieval cultures. Early
Islamic cultures of Middle East, China and early Japanese development.

PROJECT:
 Lectures, case studies and analysis of built form in the above-mentioned framework.
