BERG 4243 INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION


Group Assignment

Instruction:
 Students are required to form a group of not more than FIVE (5) to conduct this assignment
according to the given tasks below. The TOTAL marks for this assignment is 20% (15% report &
5% presentation).
 The evaluation of this assignment is based on the ability of the student(s):
(1) To analyze the concepts of automation, basic robotics and its [PO2, (WK3,4),
relationship in the manufacturing system. (WP 1,3), LOD-
C2]
(2) To design robotic and automation system according to the desired [PO3, (WK5),
performance specifications. (WP1,3), LOD-C2]
(3) To function effectively as team members or leaders in performing a [PO10, (EA1,5),
given assignment related to industrial automation. LOD-C3C]

Tasks:
(1) Choose a manufacturing industry (either discrete or process manufacturing) and discuss the
operations and movements that are involved in the production line.
(2) Analyze all the electronic components (inputs and outputs, sensors and actuators, and
controllers) that are used in the automation system for the production line.
(3) Each of the member of the group need to describe in details the steps that involved in any
one of the station for the production line.
(4) Please design using free software.

A. Written Report – group work (15%)


(1) Written in IEEE journal format, which should include abstract, introduction, objectives,
literature review, discussion, and the above-mentioned tasks.
[5 marks]
(2) Answers for the above-mentioned tasks.
(i) Able to analyze the concept of automation for the chosen manufacturing industry.
[5 marks]
(ii) Able to design the functional operation for one of the stations of the production line.
[5 marks]

B. Presentation – individual (5%):


 The marking scheme is based on the rubric as attached together with this assignment.
[5 marks]

 Presentation date: Week-13 onward.


 Report submission: On or before 31 December 2024.
