C@DETS
The C@DETS courseware is available on AirbusWorld and the Courseware for airnavX is attached into
the Help Center of airnavX.
Please be informed that C@det courseware and all the training material available in airnavX Help Center
are Airbus proprietary and should not be copied or reproduced on other support.
2.1. Raw Data for processing: SGML (Text), XML (Text), TIFF (Graphics), CGM (Graphics),
VRML (Graphics 3D)
SGML
SGML is a standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and adopted
by the Air Transport Association of America (ATA) to exchange digital documents. SGML format is
based on a structured documentation concept and is a tagged format for data processing.
Airbus delivers SGML data in general compliance with the ATA 2200 specification.
Airbus manuals are delivered in accordance with an ATA Document Type Definition (DTD).
Nevertheless, in some cases where no ATA DTD is available or the existing ATA DTD is not compliant
with the Airbus business definition, manuals are delivered according to an Airbus specific DTD following
ATA DTD Technical Requirements.
Remark:
SGML is compliant with ATA and is only used for Maintenance and Engineering data for A300-600/A310
/ A320 Family / A330 Family, A340 and A380 aircraft programs.
XML
Extensible Mark-up Language (XML) is a simple, very flexible text format derived from SGML (ISO 8879).
XML is a W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) recommendation dated 1998. It is based on exactly the
same concept and as mature as SGML raw data for processing. However it is fully Web technology
compliant and demonstrates full network efficiency. For this reason, XML selection is the result of
Aviation Industry selection for raw data format.
For A350 XWB, Airbus delivers the maintenance data in XML in compliance with the S1000D standard.
Specification S1000D is jointly defined by the ASD (Aerospace and Defense Industries Association of
Europe), AIA (Aerospace Industries Association) and ATA (Air Transport Association of America).
Airbus delivers the Flight Operations manuals in XML according to an Airbus proprietary DTD.
Interactive CGM graphics are associated with the XML delivery.
XML for Flight Operations data is supported by dedicated Airbus tools: FODM (Flight Operations
Documentation Manager) or ADOC (online content management tool) for data processing,
customization and editing into the relevant format. Details on the Airbus tools are available from the
Flight Operations Community Map on the AirbusWorld website.
TIFF
Both TIFF and CGM formats are used by AIRBUS to provide graphics associated to SGML deliverables.
For the A300-600 / A310 programs, AIRBUS provides, for most of the manuals, TIFF/CCITTG4 graphics
associated to SGML deliverables, except for TSM and ESPM where CGM graphics are delivered.
For the maintenance data of A320 Family, A330, A340, A380 aircraft programs, Airbus provides CGM
graphics associated to SGML deliverables. CGM graphics are also available in XML and SGML
deliverables for Airbus Service Bulletins
The “Tagged Image File Format” (TIFF) is a “raster” graphic format where the raster data contained in a
TIFF file can be compressed by using various compression algorithms. TIFF files provided by Airbus are
based on “Tag Image File Format Specification, Revision 5.0.” and use the CCITT Group 4 compression
algorithm, as specified by the Air Transport Association of America (ATA) iSpec 2200.
CGM
The “Computer Graphics Metafile” (CGM) format is a vector graphic format defined by the International
Organization for Standardization (ISO).
The CGM standard [ISO/IEC 8632:1999] describes all the elements available in the CGM format. Airbus
delivers CGM format in line with the following versions:
• Version 3 (V3): Advanced curves support (Bezier, conic arcs, B-splines), improved text handling, line
attributes, raster compression, more color models.
• Version 4 (V4): Application structures elements and attributes. This is the building block needed to
define interactive graphics with CGM.
As the CGM standard represents a very complete standard in its original version, it provides a large set
of elements that can be used in many different contexts. To exchange CGM files in an aeronautical
context, the Air Transport Association of America (ATA) iSpec 2200 gives the GREXCHANGE profile,
which brings some restrictions, precisions or extensions to the CGM standard.
VRML
The Virtual Reality Modeling Language is a standard file format, certified by the International
Organization for Standardization (ISO) for representing 3-dimensional (3D) interactive vector graphics.
This format has been chosen by Airbus for all the Technical Data 3D graphics products (3D animation
and 3D interactive graphics) as it is one of the most widely supported format for 3D tools and 3D
viewers.
Revision Management
For all aircraft, total revisions including all new and revised graphics are published.
RAW DATA
ONLY PROVIDED ON CUSTOMER’S REQUEST AND UNDER SPECIFIC CONDITIONS, AFTER
VALIDATION BY AIRBUS
PDF
PDF (Portable Document Format) from Adobe is the commonly used format for page-based Technical
Data. It is still available as a ready consultation solution for some Airbus Technical Data, depending on
the Airbus aircraft program. It is published on-line in AirbusWorld/airnavX for consultation and
download
PPFO
PPFO (Printable PDF Format Online) is a PDF database created by AIRBUS as a specific format for
customers who want to print-out their Flight Operations Manuals by themselves.
It is available on line through AirbusWorld/airnavX .
Airbus recommends checking the size of the document you want to print before launching a printing
action.
You may need to print only specific pages.
Some manuals can run up to 40 000 pages.
PPFO format is delivered in 2 files for each revision:
- One with complete data of the manual enabling print-out
- One with incremental data of the manual enabling print-out (incremental data from last revision)
As announced in OIT 999.0005/20 and as part of the airnavX ramp-up, the access for consultation and
download of the following AirN@v V3 modules are being removed from AirbusWorld portal:
