QUESTION.

1. EXPLAIN the steps for assembling a system unit and setting it up to a fully functional
state.

ANSWER.

Assembling a system unit and setting it up to a fully functional state involves several steps.
Here’s a detailed guide:

1. Preparation

Gather Components

 Motherboard
 Processor (CPU)
 Memory (RAM)
 Storage (SSD/HDD)
 Power Supply Unit (PSU)
 Graphics Card (if not integrated)
 Case
 Cooling System (CPU cooler, case fans)
 Peripheral Devices (keyboard, mouse, monitor)

Tools

 Screwdriver (usually Phillips head)

 Anti-static wrist strap (optional but recommended)
2. Assembling the System Unit

2.1. Prepare the Case

1. Open the Case: Remove the side panels to access the inside.
2. Install Stand-offs: These are screws that the motherboard will sit on, preventing it
from touching the case directly.

2.2. Install the Power Supply Unit (PSU)

1. Position the PSU: Place it in its designated spot in the case (usually at the bottom
or top).
2. Secure the PSU: Use screws to attach it to the case.

2.3. Install the Motherboard

1. Align the Motherboard: Line up the screw holes on the motherboard with the
stand-offs.
2. Secure the Motherboard: Screw the motherboard onto the stand-offs.

2.4. Install the CPU

1. Open the CPU Socket: Lift the retention arm.

2. Place the CPU: Align the CPU with the socket (use the indicator on the CPU and
socket for alignment).
3. Secure the CPU: Lower the retention arm.

2.5. Install the CPU Cooler

1. Apply Thermal Paste: If not pre-applied, put a small amount on the CPU.
2. Attach the Cooler: Secure it over the CPU (methods vary: screws, brackets, etc.).
3. Connect the Cooler Fan: Plug it into the appropriate header on the motherboard.

2.6. Install RAM

1. Open the RAM Slots: Push the clips on the slots outward.
2. Insert RAM: Align and press firmly until the clips snap back.

2.7. Install Storage Devices

1. Mount the SSD/HDD: Place it in the appropriate bay.

2. Secure the Storage Device: Use screws if necessary.
3. Connect Power and Data Cables: Connect to the PSU and motherboard.
2.8. Install the Graphics Card (if applicable)

1. Remove Expansion Slot Covers: Corresponding to the slot you’ll use.

2. Insert the Graphics Card: Align and press firmly into the PCIe slot.
3. Secure the Graphics Card: Use screws to attach it to the case.

2.9. Connect Power Cables

1. Motherboard Power: Connect the 24-pin and 8-pin (or 4-pin) power connectors.
2. CPU Power: Connect the appropriate power cable to the CPU.
3. Graphics Card Power: Connect if required.

2.10. Connect Case Cables

1. Front Panel Connectors: Power button, reset button, USB ports, audio jacks.
2. Case Fans: Connect to motherboard or PSU.

3. Initial Setup

3.1. Connect Peripheral Devices

 Monitor: Connect via HDMI, DVI, or DisplayPort.

 Keyboard and Mouse: Connect to USB ports.

3.2. Power On

 Plug in the Power Cable: Connect the PSU to a power outlet.

 Turn on the PSU: Flip the switch on the back of the PSU.
 Power On the System: Press the power button on the case.

4. BIOS/UEFI Configuration

1. Enter BIOS/UEFI: Press the designated key during startup (usually Del, F2, or
Esc).
2. Check Hardware Detection: Ensure all components are recognized.
3. Set Boot Order: Ensure the primary boot device is set to your storage drive.
4. Save and Exit: Save changes and exit BIOS/UEFI.

5. Operating System Installation

1. Insert Installation Media: USB drive or DVD with OS installer.

2. Boot from Installation Media: Follow on-screen prompts to install the OS.
3. Follow Installation Prompts: Set up partitions, choose settings, etc.
6. Final Setup

6.1. Install Drivers

 Motherboard Drivers: Chipset, audio, LAN, etc.

 Graphics Card Drivers: From the manufacturer’s website.
 Other Device Drivers: For peripherals like printers, scanners, etc.

6.2. Install Software

 Essential Applications: Web browser, antivirus, office suite, etc.

 User-specific Software: Any additional programs you need.

6.3. Update the System

 Operating System Updates: Install the latest updates and patches.

 Software Updates: Ensure all installed software is up to date.

7. Testing and Optimization

1. Test Hardware: Ensure all components are functioning correctly.

2. Monitor Temperatures: Use software to check CPU, GPU, and system
temperatures.
3. Optimize Settings: Adjust system settings for performance and efficiency.
