Example of an Annotated Table of Contents COMP1773

1. Introduction
This should set the scene, explaining which particular problem you are addressing, the motivation for
doing so and outline the assessment and the structure of the report.

2. Background Research
This should include research relevant to the coursework task, such as:
 Research into current considerations in User Interface Design for your coursework prototype.
 Discuss the sets of (usability/design) guidelines and standards available (there are many) for your
consideration. Decide which set or which specific guidelines you will use and justify your choice.
 Briefly conclude how the above is relevant and what you intend to apply in your prototype.

3. User Groups
 List the key facts about your user group(s) (based on research and facts needs to be referenced)
 User Personas –Two user personas informed by your key facts/research.
 Scenarios - What are the key tasks for these two personas? Create a user scenario for each of the
personas (two scenarios in total).

4. Visual Design
Discuss the following, including your considerations and final choices.
 Layout – choice made in Information Architecture (you could illustrate your choices using some
wireframes)
 Colour scheme and Font style
 Graphic design elements: use of icons, images, multimedia etc.
Do not forget to justify your choices. Cite sources where relevant.

5. Designing the low-level prototype

Design and present one low-fidelity prototype. Present and discuss it in your report as part of the
design process.

6. Evaluation and selection process

Briefly discuss the prototype evaluation techniques that you considered and justify your plan for an
user evaluation taking the design cycle into consideration.

7. Final Mid-fidelity Prototype Design

Show screenshots of the mid-fidelity prototype that you developed and describe in annotations (e.g. brief
comments) how this maps to the points discussed in the report, how the guidelines you have chosen have
been applied, and outline how the two scenarios/personas you have developed earlier have been
implemented. While you may have developed only a few pages in the previous, low-fidelity prototype
stage, you now develop all pages that are necessary to complete all tasks involved in the two scenarios
(section 3).

8. Critical reflection
A critical reflection on your own personal experience of investigating and developing a prototype for this
assessment. Discuss what you have learned, how the report/prototype could be improved, and how you
think you could apply your user interface design knowledge and skills in the future, or what you should
develop further. This must not be a summary of the report.

References
These should only refer to the work cited in your report and should be formatted using the Harvard
referencing style. The work should be underpinned by credible references, e.g. academic sources. Marks
will be deducted if citing and referencing is not applied appropriately. Finally, it is expected that you
inlcude at least 10 relevant references for this type of essay.

Length of the report: max 2500 words. Title page and references are not included in the word count.
Make sure to format your report professionally (e.g. a title page, page numbers, correctly formatted in-
text citations and references etc.).

(!) Besides the report (as pdf), submit your final prototype along with the report. Two separate files
should be submitted.
