Note: Attempt all the questions. Take suitable assumptions wherever necessary. Write the
answer as per sequence.

Ql. An engine working on constant volume has a clearance volume of 1 f and (3+2+2=7)
stroke volume of 6 t . The suction pressure and temperature are 1 bar and
20° C respectively. The pressure at the end of heat addition is 25 bar.
Determine
a) pressure and volume at salient points of the cycle
b) thermal efficiency and
c) work done per cycle

Q2. An ideal diesel cycle operates on 1 kg of standard air with initial pressure of (2+2.5+2.5=7)
1 bar and temperature of 35° C. The pressure at the end of compression is 33
bar and the cut off 6% of stroke. Determine
a) compression ratio
b) heat supplied
c) heat rejected

Q3. (a) An air standard dual cycle has a compression ratio of 15 and the (05)
compression begins at 1 bar and 27°C. The maximum pressure is limited to
60 bar. The heat supplied to air at constant volume is twice that at constant
pressure. Calculate the pressures and temperatures at all the cardinal points
of the cycle.
(b) Analyse Otto, Diesel and dual cycle for same compression ratio and heat (02)
addition.
Q4. (a) Air enters the compressor of a gas turbine plant operating on Brayton cycle (04)
at 1 bar, 27° C. The pressure ratio is 6. If Wt 2.5 W, calculate maximum
temperature and the cycle efficiency.
(b) Analyse Brayton cycle with regeneration with the help of P-V and T-S (03)
diagrams.

Q5. (a) Design an experiment to measure IP of a multi-cylinder diesel engine. (04)

(b) Analyse Sterling cycle vis a vis Carnot cycle with the help of P-V and T-S (03)
diagrams.
