Student Name Ali Hamza

Why did you choose to study at UNSW College and UNSW? Describe any research you have
conducted in home country or in other countries including Australia, before choosing UNSW
College and UNSW. You are required to share the key points of differences based on your selection
criteria or comparisons made while doing the research.
In my pursuit of higher education, I considered several countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and options in my home country, Pakistan. Ultimately, I chose UNSW for its unique advantages. In the United States, I explored institutions like
the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Michigan, which are renowned for their Computer Science programs. However, the high costs of education, with tuition fees ranging from $40,000 to $60,000 USD and living expenses often exceeding $20,000 USD
annually, made it less feasible. Additionally, safety concerns for international students added to my hesitations about studying in the U.S. In Canada, I looked into the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia. While tuition fees are generally lower, the
requirement for a blocked account with approximately CAD 20,635, along with the harsh winter weather, poses challenges for someone like me from South Asia as well as these institute weren't that up to the mark as UNSW in terms of QS world university ranking and subject
ranking. In the United Kingdom, I considered prestigious institutions like Imperial College London and University College London (UCL). However, living expenses in London average GBP 1,483 per month (approximately AUD 28,000 per year) or GBP 10,224 outside London,
combined with tuition fees that can reach GBP 43,300 per year, made it a significant financial commitment. Plus complex admission process and rising living costs further raised concerns. I also evaluated options in Pakistan, such as the Lahore University of Management
Sciences (LUMS) and the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST). While these universities offer good programs, they lack the global recognition and industry connections that UNSW provides, which are crucial for my career aspirations.

UNSW stands out for its exceptional Computer Science and Software Engineering programs, accredited by Engineers Australia and the Australian Computing Society. It ranks 1st in Australia for Engineering and Technology according to the QS World University Rankings by
Subject, 2024, and is 4th in Australia for Computer Science, 19th in the QS World University Rankings 2025. The university emphasizes hands-on learning, aiming to transform students into designers of new technologies. UNSW partners with leading organizations, such as
Data61, a prominent digital research network focused on areas like artificial intelligence and programming languages. This practical approach ensures that graduates are not only knowledgeable but also equipped with real-world experience. Furthermore, UNSW ranks 1st in
Australia for algorithms, artificial intelligence, databases, and operating systems, according to both the ARWU Shanghai Subject Rankings and the QS World University Rankings by Subject. The university’s commitment to teaching and research is recognized by Times Higher
Education, which further solidifies its reputation. In contrast, UNSW's manageable tuition fee of AUD 41,100 for the Foundation Program and estimated living expenses of around AUD 29,710 annually make it a financially viable option. The comprehensive support services for
international students and the vibrant multicultural environment of Sydney also played significant roles in my decision.

Give a brief description of the program requirements, subject specialisation and the core contents
of proposed Program.
The Standard Foundation Program in the Physical stream at UNSW College is designed to prepare students for undergraduate studies in Engineering and Computer Science. To be eligible for this program, students must have

To progress to the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Arts, I have to achieve a minimum GPA of 7.5 and C+ grade in English. This rigorous program will equip me with the necessary knowledge and skills for success in my
Bachelor of Science (Computer Science)/Arts and career pursuits.

Describe the relevance of proposed course to future study and/or career plans upon successful
completion of proposed Program. Identify the associated international career opportunities
available and any other specific reasons for seeking to undertake this particular Program.
The Standard Foundation Program in the Physical stream at UNSW College is highly relevant to my prior qualification as well as my future study and career aspirations in the field of Computer Science. Successfully completing this

network of peers and mentors.

Do you intend to work in Australia during your studies / post completion? What are your plans after
finishing your course at UNSW College and UNSW?
I do not have immediate plans to work in Australia during my studies, as my primary focus will be on successfully completing the Foundation Program and my subsequent degree at UNSW. However,I would like to take
advantage of the Post-Study Work (PSW) visa for a year, which allows me to gain two years of work experience in Australia after completing my degree at UNSW. My aim is to work in some of Australia's leading IT
companies, such as Atlassian, Canva, and Airtasker in entry-level roles such as Software Developer, Data Analyst, or Cybersecurity Specialist. This international experience would provide me with valuable exposure to
cutting-edge technologies and business practices in globally recognized companies, enhancing my professional skills and broadening my perspective.

Upon returning to Pakistan, I plan to apply to some of the country’s top IT companies, such as NetSol Technologies, Arpatech, and Systems Limited, which are known for preferring foreign graduates and offering promising
career opportunities. I aim to pursue roles such as Senior Software Engineer, Project Manager, or IT Consultant, where I can leverage both my academic knowledge and international experience to contribute effectively. In
the long term, my career goal is to attain a leadership position within the IT industry in Pakistan. I also aspire to establish my own technology firm, where I can foster innovation and create job opportunities, thereby
contributing to the growth of Pakistan’s digital economy. This plan will enable me to make a lasting impact both locally and globally, with a strong foundation built through my studies and work experience in Australia.

Provide details of education and employment history. You must provide reasons for any gaps of 6
months or more in academic and/or employment history.
I completed my Matriculation in Science in 2022, achieving a score of 658 out of 1100. Following this, I pursued an Intermediate in Computer Science (ICS), which I completed in 2024 with a
score of 683 out of 1200. My academic journey has focused on building a strong foundation in mathematics and computing, preparing me for advanced studies in Computer Science.

In terms of English proficiency, I achieved an overall score of 57 on the Pearson Test of English (PTE), with individual scores of 56 in Writing, 56 in Reading, 62 in Speaking, and no less than
54 in Listening. This demonstrates my capability to engage in academic discourse effectively.

As for my employment history, I do not have formal work experience yet, as I have been concentrating on my studies. Plus, There have been no significant gaps in my academic history.

My studies and living expenses will be funded by my father, Muhammad Sajid, S/O Muhammad Yousaf, who was born on May 10, 1975. He is a citizen of Pakistan and resides there.
He has a well-established business in Pakistan, specializing in selling and purchasing tires under the name City Tires, with a monthly average income of approximately 220,000 PKR.

In addition to his business income, my father owns 5 acres of agricultural land valued at 60 million PKR. He generates an annual income of 81,50,000 PKR by leasing 418 kanal out of
a total of 600 kanal of this land. Furthermore, he receives rental income of 3,600,000 PKR from four commercial shops, which have a combined worth of 45 million PKR.

With this diverse and robust financial background, my father is well-equipped to support my education and living expenses while I pursue my studies at UNSW College.

Describe your personal and economic ties to your home country (including other country if any).
My family is the cornerstone of my life. I have close relationships with my parents and siblings, and I am deeply connected to my community and my inner friend circle. These relationships instill a sense of belonging and responsibility that influences my desire to
return home after my education. My father’s business, City Tires, is not just a source of income; it represents our family's legacy and values. I feel a strong commitment to support and contribute to this legacy in meaningful ways. From an economic perspective,
my family's well-established business provides a solid foundation. My father has successfully built City Tires, and he also owns agricultural land and rental properties, creating a robust financial base. This economic stability ensures that my educational expenses
are covered and underscores the importance of returning home to contribute to our family's economic activities.

On the other hand, The IT sector in Pakistan is flourishing, with a burgeoning demand for skilled professionals in areas like software development, data science, and digital solutions. By pursuing a degree in Computer Science, I am positioning myself to capitalize
on this growth by working in leading tech stars such as Netsol and Systems Limited. These firms are known for their innovative projects and high standards, providing an ideal environment for me to develop my skills and make a tangible impact. Working in these
reputable organizations will not only equip me with the technical expertise necessary for success but also help me build a professional network that is crucial in the tech industry. After gaining valuable experience, I aspire to establish my own IT company that
meets international standards, integrating the insights and practices I learn from the industry leaders. This venture will enable me to create innovative solutions that address local needs while also appealing to global markets. Moreover, my family's business
background will support my entrepreneurial ambitions. Inheriting my father's successful ventures will provide me with the resources and insights needed to launch my enterprise effectively.

Describe proposed living arrangements in Australia.
I will finalize my living arrangements upon receiving my visa decision; however, I have already considered some off-campus single-person
apartments near the institution, as these options tend to be more affordable than on-campus accommodation. Through my research on
websites such as Flatmates.com and Backpackers.com, I have found that the cost of living in a one-person studio apartment will be
approximately AUD 500 to AUD 550 per week. Additionally, I anticipate that my yearly living expenses will be around AUD 21,041. I am
confident that these expenses will be covered through the funds in my bank account, as well as through the financial support of my father,
whose monthly income and additional sources of funds are more than sufficient to cover all living costs.
