1. Jamie is 18 years old. If she were 2 years older, she would be


2 times older than her brother Jason. How old is Jason?

2. Centennial School's Terry Fox Run was a huge success.


Students brought in money to donate to Cancer Care.The amount
raised was announced in the form of a math riddle:It is a three
digit number. Its digits are in descending order. It is divisible by
three. The hundred's digit is two more than the one's digit. Add
the three digits and it will give you a dozen. What is the amount?

3. Ben went shopping for clothes. He bought a shirt for $21.50,


shorts for $15.29, and socks for $2.97. He also paid $1.99 in
sales tax. Which equation can you use to calculate the change
he received from a $100 bill?

4. Jessica wants to make a wooden picture frame to hold a


painting she has done. The picture frame will be 80 cm by 50
cm. It costs $0.25 for each centimeter of framing. How much
will it cost to frame Jessica’s painting?

5. Beth’s grandmother, Sarah, is 58 years old. Beth is 21 years


younger than her mother May. May is 1/2 of Sarah’s age.
How old is Beth?

6. Mr. Glenn is buying soda for his end of the year class party.
He is buying 2 liter bottles of soda. A 2-liter bottle contains 8
servings. How many 2-liter bottles must he buy for his class of
20 students, 2 parent volunteers, and himself?

7. I am a four digit number. The numeral in my thousands place


is twice as much as my tens place. The numeral in my ones
place is two less than the numeral in my tens place. The
numeral in my hundreds place is twice the numeral in my ones
place. The numeral in my tens place is 4. What is my number?
8. The Summit School held its annual Read-A-Thon, and 90% of the
school’s 550 students participated in the event. Of the students who
participated this year, 38 read just 1 or 2 books, 82 read 3 to 5 books, 173
read 6 to 9 books, and the rest read 10 or more books.

What percentage (to the nearest whole percent) of the participating students
this year read more than 5 books for the Read-A-Thon?

9. The total fare for 2 adults and 3 children on the Tilt-n-Spew ride is
$14.00. If a child's fare is one half of an adult's fare, what is the adult fare?

10. A piece of string is 40 centimeters long. It is cut into three pieces. The
longest piece is 3 times as long as the middle-sized piece and the shortest
piece is 23 centimeters shorter than the longest piece. Find the lengths of the
three pieces.
