Overview
In the SNMP, for all editable fields, use only US-ASCII characters. Extended ASCII characters
are not supported.
l Support for RFC 3413 for SNMP Notification Table, SNMP Target Table.
l Support for RFC 3414 for SNMP USM.
l Support for RFC 3411 (SNMP Framework), RFC 2576 (SNMP Community), RFC 1902
(SNMPv2-SMI), RFC 1903 (SNMPV2-TC), RFC 1573 (IANA IfType).
l Support for RFC1213 (SYS-MIB, SNMP-MIB).
The OSA 5422 supports trap generation and information messages in V1, V2c, or V3
versions. The version is user configurable for each target address as part of the provisioning
actions of the network demarcation device.
The Oscilloquartz: An ADVA Company equipment complies with the MIB-II standards as
specified in STD 17, RFC 1213.
Oscilloquartz: An ADVA Company has developed a series of Enterprise specific traps for the
demarcation devices which support the Generic Traps standards. All traps are defined and
made available to the user for integration into their NMS. The demarcation device also
supports user configurable alarm severity.
For setting 64 bit values, such as thresholds for Counter64 PM, rates, such as CIR/EIR, a pair
of SNMP variables are used for lower/upper 32-bits of the value (Low/Hi). There is an
expectation that these two are set with a single SNMP set operation to obtain the expected
behavior.
Oscilloquartz: An ADVA Company demarcation devices support RFC 2819 RMON-MIB for
these tables (see details in Factory Default Configuration Settings ):

Security
Default community strings are provided as public with read-only access and private with
read-write access. Community strings and access permissions can be added or deleted by
the user as required.
General Management
Framework
All SNMP traps and information tables support standard Management Information Base
based on IETF standards and a management protocol as defined by IETF standards.
The current alarms and notifications can be accessed using the fsp150cm-alarm.mib: the
cmSysCondTable, which lists conditions at the system level, and the
cmNetworkElementAlmTable, which lists conditions at the NE level.
The system supports up to 10 trap host destination addresses configured by the user.
Setting SNMP destination addresses is part of the standard provisioning of the units and
can be carried out using the craft serial interface, telnet/SSH or the Internet Browser
through an HTTP or HTTPS connection as well as SNMP (see Entity State Descriptions ).
All traps and state change notifications are autonomously sent to all provisioned target
addresses and Syslog servers (if enabled). Alarms are sent to the alarm section of the web-
based management GUI, state changes and database change notifications are sent to the
various log files (if enabled).
Traps and Notifications provides the list of supported traps and notifications for the
OSA 5422 product.
All physical and logical link failures are reported per Alarm Masking for both Network and
Access port (customer facing) connections.
Remote Monitoring (RMON) is used for alarm reporting, as well as rising threshold crossing
alarms per Performance Monitoring Settings .
The management access can be set in various ways as detailed in the OSA 5422
Provisioning and Operations Manual: either directly on the unit by connecting the LAN
Management port to a switch-router, or by enabling a VLAN management tunnel on the
Access or Network ports. The default Superuser privilege User-ID Login is root and the
default password is ChgMeNOW.
Management Information
Base Files
ADVA Optical Networking provides a complete ZIP file of all MIB files required for the
implementation of SNMP based management and operation of any of the OSA 5422 units.
The MIB files include both standard MIBs (RFC based) and enterprise MIBs referred to as
“ADVA Optical Networking” MIBs.
The MIB folder has been tested on various systems such as HPOpenView® without issues.
In addition, ADVA Optical Networking is certified as a partner of NetCool® Ready Solution
by MicroMuse. The MIBs have been compiled with various MIBs compilers.
SNMP MIB Tables provides a list of all supported MIBs along with Row/Table information,
comments and ADVA Optical Networking units they relate to.
Once the MIB files are loaded and compiled on the management system, and the unit is
configured with the appropriate target address and community string, the traps are ready
to be received.
For more information about entity states, see the OSA 5422 Provisioning and Operations
Manual.

Factory Default
Configuration Settings
When the database of the OSA 5422 is modified, it stores the changes in non-volatile
memory. If a power loss / system reboot occur, all configuration data is retained. There are
three versions of the database always resident on the system, plus a “standby” copy of the
current database. The three versions are the current running configuration, System Default
(a copy that can be modified by a user) and Factory Default (a copy that cannot be
modified). When first commissioned, these three database versions are identical. As
provisioning occurs, the current running configuration database is updated with each
change entered.
This table describes the factory default configuration settings and the connections between
SNMP parameters to the OSA 5422 web-based management GUI operation.

For the conditions that have a NSA Default Notification Code of Not alarmed, such as
shaperbtd, these are reported as events and can be retrieved from the
cmNetworkElementCondTable or cmSysCondTable based on whether these are
Network Element level conditions or System level conditions. When these are Not
reported, there are no events sent for these condition types. Yet, they can be retrieved
from the cmNetworkElementCondTable or cmSysCondTable. Both Not Alarmed and
Not Reported cannot be retrieved from the cmNetworkElementAlmTable or
cmSysAlmTable.

ethernetNTEGESyncProbeCardSnmpDyingGaspEnabled.1.1.1 = true(1)
SNMP dying gasp is sent to up to 2 target addresses each on a different port. Target
addresses come from snmpTargetAddrTable. In the background it is determined based on
the IP routing table which interface the SNMP dying gasp PDU is sent. There is an extension
to snmpTargetAddrTable called 3SnmpTargetAddrExtTable which provides addition control
where SNMP dying gasp could be enabled or disabled for a particular Target Address.
f3SnmpTargetAddrExtDyingGaspEnabled.8.65.100.100.114.84.101.115.116 = true(1)
To check which port and whether the SNMP dying gasp will be sent on that port to the
target address, retrieve the following variables:
f3SnmpTargetAddrExtDyingGaspPort
f3SnmpTargetAddrExtDyingGaspActive
Here are the retrieved values of the variables in the f3SnmpTargetAddrExtTable (Note that
the port is not resolved for the target address and the SNMP dying gasp is not active for
this target address):

Entries 101 to 300 in the aclEntryIndex are reserved for configuring the
IPv4/IPv6 Traffic ACLs (see Configuring the IP Traffic ACLs).
Configuring the MGMT ACL involves setting these SNMP parameters for a particular entry
from 1 to 100, where the parameters configured depend on whether an IPv4 or IPv6 address
is defined:
l aclEntryIpVersion.1 = ipv4(1)
l aclEntryNetworkAddress.1 = 100.101.101.3
l aclEntryNetworkMask.1 = 255.255.255.0
l aclEntryEnabled.1 = true(1)
l aclEntryIpVersion.2 = ipv6(2)
l aclEntryNetworkIpv6Addr.2 =
1010:1111:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:000A
l aclEntryPrefixLength.2 = 32
l aclEntryEnabled.2 = true(1)
Configuring PTP/NTP
Security for IP Addresses
OSA 5422 has a built-in IPv4 and IPv6 security mechanism to reduce the likelihood of a
system crash in case of a DDoS (Distributed Denial-of-Service) attack by filtering out
NTP/PTP packets. Two security features are available to configure: ICMP Filter and Access
Control List (ACL). These filters relate to the IPv4 and IPv6 data plane (PTP/NTP), and do not
include management.
The source address for IPv4 and IPv6 can be of any type and is not limited to unicast
addresses. Up to 100 entries can be made for each IP type, and each entry can be
individually enabled or disabled. Enabled entries apply to all PTP/NTP interfaces.
The IP Traffic ACLs are configured in the cmSysSecObjects (4), aclTable (2),
aclEntry(1). Entries 101-200 in the aclEntryIndex are reserved for the IPv4 Traffic
ACL, and entries 201-300 are reserved for the IPv6 Traffic ACL.
l Set these SNMP parameters for a particular instance from 101 to 200:
l aclEntryIpVersion: Ensure that the type of IP address is defined as
ipv4(1), which is the default configuration.
l aclEntryNetworkAddress: Define the IPv4 address containing the
PTP/NTP traffic that you want filtered by OSA 5422.
l aclEntryNetworkMask: Define the network mask for the IPv4 address.
l aclEntryEnabled: Define whether this IP address definition is enabled
or disabled (default) in the system. To enable this IP definition, set this
parameter to true(1). Otherwise, this parameter is set to false(2).
l Set these SNMP parameters for a particular instance from 201 to 300:
l aclEntryIpVersion: Ensure that the type of IP address is defined as
ipv6(2).
l aclEntryNetworkIpv6Addr: Define the IPv6 address containing the
PTP traffic that you want filtered by OSA 5422.
l aclEntryPrefixLength: Define the prefix for the IPv6 address. The
default is set to 64.
l aclEntryEnabled: Defines whether this IP address definition is enabled
or disabled (default) in the system. To enable this IP definition, set this
parameter to true(1). Otherwise, this parameter is set to false(2).
An example of configuring the ICMPv4 Filter to block echo requests by setting these
parameters:
l icmpV4Filter.0 = enabled(1)
l icmpV4DropEchoRequests.0 = enabled(1)
l icmpV6Filter.0 = enabled(1)
l icmpV6DropNeighborAdvertisement.0 = enabled(1)
Software Upgrade
Software upgrade involves three steps:
Software is copied using either FTP, SFTP, or SCP. For these protocols, set these parameters
in the cmSystemMIB (2), cmSystemObjects (1), cmFileServicesObjects
(8):
l fileServicesMethod.0 = scp(2)
l fileServicesServerType.0 = ipaddr(1)
l fileServicesServerIp.0 = 172.17.22.76
l fileServicesUserId.0 = "jdoe"
l fileServicesPassword.0 = "jdoepw"
l fileServicesRemoteFile.0 = "/u01/users/jdoe/software/sw.img"
l fileServicesAction.0 = software-copy(3)
l softwareAction.0 = install(1)
l softwareAction.0 = schedule-upgrade(2)
After the new software is activated and if the user loses connectivity, then there has to be
way to reach the system again. A mechanism called software validation timer is provided,
which could be set by the user before activating the upgrade process. This timer starts after
reboot if the restart reason was due to activation of the new software. When the timer
starts, the system returns to active the software before the upgrade. If this timer is set, the
user is expected to set the softwareAction.0 variable to indicate cancellation of the
activation timer when the system is reachable.
l softwareAction.0 = validate-upgrade(4)
l softwareAction.0 = cancel-upgrade(3)
l softwareAction.0 = revert-upgrade(5)
Feature Management
OSA 5422 supports licenses for various features. In the SNMP MIB, each feature license is
assigned an index number. Table 26 details the feature names, descriptions, and indexes.

Enabling/Disabling Feature
License Example
This section provides an example of enabling and disabling the PTP-Enterprise-and-IEEE-
1588-2008-L3-Multicast-Profiles license.
l f3SystemFeatureEnabled.4 = true(1)
l f3SystemFeatureEnabled.4 = false(1)
databaseAction.0 = backup(1)
fileServicesRemoteFile.0 = "/u01/users/jdoe/database/db01.img"
fileServicesAction.0 = put-database(2)
Assuming the database to be restored is not in the temporary location on the device, it first
needs to be copied from the remote server. It needs to be restored and activated.
fileServicesRemoteFile.0 = "/u01/users/jdoe/database/db01.img"
fileServicesAction.0 = get-database(1)
databaseAction.0 = restore(2)
4. Activate the restored database which results in the standby database becoming active
and system to restart.
databaseAction.0 = activate(3)
The database version in the active and standby partitions can be viewed by getting the
entries in the databaseTable table.
In general, for any file transfer software, database get or database put, you could get the file
transfer status by retrieving fileServicesStatus.0 and file transfer percentage
complete by retrieving fileServicesPercentComplete.0.
