NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, ROURKELA

Name of the Examination: B. Tech, 2nd Semester, Mid-Sem. Examination, Spring 2022
Subject ID: EC-1000(Section–A/B/C/D) Subject: Basic Electronics Engineering
Maximum marks:30 Time: 2 hours
Instructions:
1. Answer all the questions.
2. All parts of a question should be written in a single continuous space.
3. Due credit will be awarded for neatness in drawing and labeling circuit diagrams.
1. a) Perform following operations using 2’s-complement method and verify the result
using decimal conversion: (i) 29-49, (ii) 50-30, (iii) (-24) -(-20) 3+2

b) Convert following numbers to indicated bases: (i) (346)10= (?)5 (ii ) (64AD)16=()8
2. a) Simplify the following Boolean expressions to minimum number literals and draw the 2+3
logic diagrams for the circuits that implement original and simplified expressions:
(i) 𝑥𝑦𝑧 + 𝑥 ′ 𝑦 + 𝑥𝑦𝑧′ (ii) 𝑥𝑦 + 𝑥 ′ 𝑧 + 𝑦𝑧

b) Simplify the Boolean functions using K-Map:

(i) 𝐹(𝑤, 𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧) = ∑(1,4,5,6,12,14,15) (ii) 𝐹(𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧) = ∑(2,3,6,7)

3. Draw the excitation table and characteristic table of the JK flip-flop. Also, find the
characteristic equation. 5
