SPECIFICATIONS
The CONTRACTOR is asked to perform an above water screening inspection of the OSS topside external structure
and ancillary elements ranging from the jacket-topside interface at +12.40 m MSL up to the highest point of the
topside structure or corresponding ancillary element.
The CONTRACTOR shall focus on the evaluation of potential safety and accessibility risks, signs of damage, corrosion
and overall integrity of columns, bracings, decks and walls forming the structure of each topside block. Any area
where previous repair works have been conducted shall be also part of this screening inspection.
On the topside structure, all checks and identification of anomalies shall be referenced according to the
corresponding topside module; 1 or 2, and the deck level as follows:
- Cable deck (T.O.S EL +13.50 m).
- Main deck (T.O.S EL +20.50 m).
- Utility/Upper deck (T.O.S EL +25.00 m).
- Roof deck (T.O.S EL +29.50 m).
- Helicopter landing deck (T.O.S EL +33.50 m).
The corners of the topside structure will be referenced following the codification of the jacket legs: A2, A4’, A7, C2,
C4’ and C7. All inspections are to be made with reference to a height of +12.4m MSL – topside-jacket interface. Any
inspection carried out in a specific component shall be referenced accordingly.
The screening inspection will comprise a combination of general visual assessments at different distances and
locations. It is understood that an initial global assessment will be performed from a boat passing 360 degrees
around the foundation while local evaluation will require closer observation where the access method will be
determined based on the level of accessibility to each specific area.
All areas are considered to have a good accessibility and access can be achieved by the multiple access walkways
and stairs placed outside the walls of each topside module. The equipment to be used shall be enough to assess the
global integrity of the structural elements and components under the scope, ranging from the use of binoculars,
high resolution cameras, video recorders, etc., used either at long or short distance from the asset. For the purpose
of the visual assessment major cleaning of components and/or the topside will not be required; however, this may
be necessary in working areas where access is restricted to carry out the required works.
The table below provide a non-exhaustive high level list of items and components/elements under the scope of this
inspection:

The CONTRACTOR is requested to inspect the aforementioned elements in order to do as minimum the checks
detailed below where applicable. It shall be noted that this list is not exhaustive.
- Severe corrosion damage in terms of wear and rust.
- Localised corrosion damage in terms of pitting holes and cracks.
- Member severance or missing members.
- Member buckling.
- Member denting or any other plastic deformation.
- Presence of debris trapped within the structural members of the topside.
- Signs of galvanised corrosion in any steel connection, with special focus on the bolted connections.
- Global loss of integrity.
- Gross fatigue damage like cracks.
- Missing, loose and failed bolts in any bolted connection – visual assessment.
- Loose socket and pin connections.
- Presence of earthing connections, integrity and visual appearance, e.g. signs of corrosion.
- Connections and attachments of ancillary elements to secondary steelwork.
- Integrity and visual appearance of hook-on points and marking systems used.
- Full or partial detachment of components.
- Poor water drainage and water accumulation.
- Ice formations and iced surfaces.
- Good state of markings, warnings and identification panels.
- General state of accommodation and/or stores, machinery spaces.
The CONTRACTOR is asked to carry out a general visual inspection of the gratings at all decks in order to determine
if there are loose grating sections due to vibration (paying special attention to the Power Transformers vicinity),
corrosion or if the hilti connections are loose. In the event that these hilti connections present the abovementioned
defects, the CONTRACTOR shall either tighten or replace them so these do not represent a H&S risk to the
personnel working at the OSS.
The CONTRACTOR is asked to carry out a general visual inspection of all accessible coated surfaces in order to
evaluate the overall condition of the coating and the presence of any major corrosion damage. The CONTRACTOR
shall look for any sign of evident abnormalities:
- Gross paint coating damage; flaking, blistering, etc.
- Major paint coating decolouration in terms of loss of yellow brightness for signalling and navigational aid
purposes.
- Adequate labelling of the OSS with black paint at the main deck shall be also verified.
- Severe corrosion damage in terms of wears and rusts in the structure.
The CONTRACTOR shall adequately plan the paint inspection campaign to ensure that any required corrective paint
touch-up can be completed before the Autumn season as it brings unsuitable climatic conditions.
The CONTRACTOR is also required to evaluate the foundation as a whole system in order to assess topside
verticality in conjunction with the jacket structure.
In addition to the visual assessment, the CONTRACTOR is requested to perform the following checks/functional
tests:
- Functionality of the swing and sliding gates located in the corresponding areas.
- Functionality of the doors to access the internal compartments of the topside structure.
The CONTRACTOR is asked to visually verify the adequate tensioning of the bolts installed in the bolted connection
of the crane pedestals and communications tower, among others. Additionally, the CONTRACTOR is asked to check
the torque of the 10% of the bolted connections of each type in the communications lattice tower with suitable
tooling, e.g. torque wrench or alternative tooling.
At the interface between Topside 1 and Topside 2 (see Figure 1), the CONTRACTOR shall take measurements and
photographic evidence of the distance between the IPE beam to the HEB beam. The aim would be to determine
the following two parameters at the various deck levels (see Figure 6) where there is a transition/walkway
arranged between topside T1 and T2:
- Parameter A) the overlapping distance between the IPE and C beam profiles mounted on top the topside
HEB beams.
- Parameter B) the distance (or gap) between the IPE and HEB top of the beam.
These measurements, shown at Figure 5, and photographs shall be taken standing on top of the grating above the
interface.
See in the figures below details of: the location of the interface within the OSS (Figure 2), the section of this
interface where HEB, C and IPE profiles can be identified (Figure 3 and 4), details of the overlap between the IPE
and C beam profiles mounted on top the topside HEB beams (Figure 5).

Figure 5: Detail 3 of the overlap between the IPE and C beam profiles mounted on top the topside HEB beams
As a minimum, the measurements shall be taken at the points identified in the sketch further below. A
measurement shall be taken at each interface point and reference shall be made to its location and deck level. If
any of the suggested spot locations cannot be accessed for any reason, then a substitute shall be chosen and be
referenced accordingly.
Deck Number of checks
Cable Deck 4 x 2 x 2 = 16 individual connection points
Roof Deck 4 x 2 x 2 = 16 individual connection points
During the inspection works, the following works may be required based on the findings from the visual
assessment:
- Removal of bird droppings on platforms, railings and ladders.
- Removal of slippery debris on platforms, gates, railings and ladders.
- Removal of ice formations restricting access to working areas.
- Drainage of accumulated water on any working area.
- Marking of the hook-on points based on their integrity as a result of the visual assessment.
The CONTRACTOR shall ensure a proper condition of the platforms, railings and access systems at any time during
the duration of this task and at the time of leaving the topside.
The final selection of the equipment and methodology to be employed in this inspection is at the CONTRACTOR
discretion. Innovative solutions (e.g. drones) as an alternative to conventional means for this task will be
considered.
DELIVERABLES
