APPLYING STATISTICAL CONCEPTS/ADVANCED STATISTICS
IN A RESEARCH PAPER
Culminating Project in [Business Statistics/Statistics in Communication Research]
Term 1 AY 2024-2025

Section ______ Schedule _______

Group Members
1. Last name, First name (Leader)
2. Last name, First name
3. Last name, First name
4. Last name, First name
5. Last name, First name
At most 3 members

Learning Outcome:
At the end of the term, the students are expected to apply relevant statistics concepts such as:

 Descriptive Statistics (graphs, tables, summary measures generated using statistical

software e.g. Microsoft Excel)
 Sampling Techniques
 Hypothesis Testing (Parametric or Non Parametric Statistics)

Culminating project (Learning Output): A research paper about a topic of their choice through
conducting a survey to a simple random sample of 50-100 respondents

 Research paper
 Paper presentation of the research and its results on power point presentation
 Accomplished questionnaires from the 50-100 respondents.

A. Title of the Study

Example: Effectiveness of Referral programs in the Retention of Employees

For Advanced Statistics, deal on AI: AI on Art Generated, AI on Parking, AI on
Paraphasing Tool, etc……

B. Statement of the Problem

Example:
1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of:

1.1. Age;

1.2. Sex;

1.3. Highest Educational Attainment;

1.4. Place of Residence

1.5. Year Level

1.6. Program/Course

These are some examples. Make at least 3 profiles of your respondents.

2. What is the assessment of the respondents regarding practice of employee

referral recruitment system in terms of:

2.1. Employee Engagement

2.2. Employee Morale

These are some examples so that you can have a guideline on how to

make questions for your SOP 2.

3. Is there a significant relationship between the employee referral recruitment

system with employee retention as assessed by the respondents?

These are some examples. It’s up to you if you want to deal with

relationships or differences on SOP 2.

C. Description of the Target Population

Example: Employees of BDO Companies

D. Sampling Technique

Indicate whether probability or non-probability and the specific sampling technique

used.
Example: Simple Random Sampling Technique (Module 6)
Determination of Sample Size (Module 6)

E. Hypothesis Statement
State here the null hypothesis of the study.

Example: This is the null hypothesis for SOP 3. SOP 1 and 2 have no hypotheses.

There is no significant relationship between the employee referral recruitment system

with employee retention as assessed by the respondents.

F. Statistical Treatment

Indicate here where descriptive statistics will be applied (ex. demographics/profile of

the sample, result of the quantitative part of the survey).
Indicate also what type of inferential statistics, hypothesis testing will be used.
Data and computation (through software applications) must be included in the slide
presentation.

SOP 1: Percentage (relative frequency table-Module 2or3?)

SOP 2: Weighted Mean (Module 4)
SOP 3: Correlation and Regression (This is just one of the many)
Or from Modules 7, 8, 9, 10, 11

G. Survey Questionnaire through Google Forms

Questionnaire Format:

Research Topic INDICATE THE TITLE HERE

DEMOGRAPHY:

Name:
Student Number:
Year Level:
College:
Designated Program:
Age:

QUANTITATIVE QUESTIONS:

Example Results:

SOP 1
SOP 2

SOP 3
QUALITATIVE QUESTIONS:

(At least 10 questions about the research topic of choice should be able to collect both
qualitative and quantitative variables)

H. References

Bold face the lifted article/ statement

Italicize the reference. You may refer to the following link on how to correctly cite a reference.
