Maya UI Hotkeys and other useful stuff.

Some Hotkeys and other Things.

Ctrl A Opens the attribute editor

Cmd Z or just Z Undo last function

A Frame all

F Frame Selected.

ALT+LMB Drag Rotate view (persp only)

ALT+MMB Drag Pan View (persp and ortho views)

ALT+RMB Drag Dolly View (persp and ortho views)

1 Low Resolution

2 Low resolution wire frame over high resolution

3 High Resolution (Smooth view)

4 Wireframe

5 Shaded view

6 Textured View

In the channel box

Type in any value into a parameter box


highlight the name of any parameter + MMB Drag the viewport to scrub the value.

affect multiple parameters by highlighting - here a vaule of 5 will be entered into all
three rotate parameters.
MMB drag the view to scrub all three rotate values.

Tap the spacebar to bring up a 4 up view: (or the last used view)

spacebar brings up last used view

move the mouse over the desired view and tap the space bar again to bring up one
of the four views
top view.

In a 4 up view

Shift F Frame selected in all views.

Shift A Frame all objects in all views.

Frame selected - all views


Holddown X Toggles Snap to grid on/off temporarily

Holddown V Toggles Snap to point on/off temporarily.

Shift . (fullstop) Grows a Selection - great for selecting adjacent faces.

To move an axis or pivot point


without moving its object geometry:

Move tool (top icon of the three)

First select the move tool (press w)

Then do one of the following:

Hold Down D

Press Insert (extended keyboard = home key next to fn)

Press fn left arrow (laptop keyboard)


Moving the axis

the axis changes and can be now moved independently of the geometry - see
above.

When you are finished press the d key or press insert / fn left arrow to return to the
standard move tool.
