PHYSIOTHERAPY
INTRODUCTION
 Location of Department: Basement in Hospital Building.

 Number Of Staff: MPTH – 2, BPTH – 2 Total- 04

 Scope of Department:

1. A Physiotherapist (also known as a Physical Therapist) is a very


important member of the healthcare team where his responsibility is to
rehabilitate patients back to normal without medicines by the use of
exercise, manual therapy, rehabilitation techniques and physical
activity.
2. A physical therapist’s job involves helping patients to recover and/or
rehabilitate from a state of having been incapacitated from
neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary, sports, geriatrics,
oncology impairments among others.
3. He/she has the responsibility to help restore the patient’s body to its
optimal functioning level.
4. We are also key health professionals in the prevention of injuries
including on-field sports injuries, and treat the reactions and responses
of the body to injury, disease or abnormalities in development.

 Responsibilities:

Head of Department

 Administration & Smooth functioning of Department.

 Daily round and meeting with Consultants from OPD & IPD to

make sure proper Physiotherapy have been given to all patients.


Senior Physiotherapist

 Perform Assessment & planning of treatment. Treatment for


Orthopedics, Neuro, Cardio-Respiratory, Pediatrics, Gynecology &
Sports injuries cases.
 Daily round & treatment to MICU, SICU, Cath Lab ICU, CVTS
ICU, Step Down ward as well as All general wards (Ortho,
Medicine, Surgery, Gynec, Pediatric & Onco ward) who cannot
come to OPD.
 Counselling of the Patients.

Junior Physiotherapist
 Under the guidance of Senior Physiotherapist implement the
treatment. Maintaining & regular Servicing all Physiotherapy
instrument for smooth functioning of OPD. Maintain the OPD &
IPD patient record register.
 Preparation of Monthly OPD & IPD record & statistics.
 Preparation of Annual OPD & IPD record & Statistics.
 Maintain all Monthly, Annual OPD & IPD record & statistics in
both Hard Copy & Soft Copy Format.
 Maintain & record keeping of Annual Maintenance Contract of all
Physiotherapy Equipment’s.

1. POLICY ON REGISTRATION
 POLICY:
1. Physiotherapy Treatment is Free of Cost to all OPD & IPD
Patients.
2. All referral patients from Orthopedics, Medicine, Surgery,
Pediatric, Oncology, Gynecology, Cardiac & ENT OPD’s unit
Consultants.
3. All Advised Physiotherapy Call from IPD Wards like
Orthopedics, Medicine, Surgery, Pediatric, Oncology, Gynecology,
Cardiac & ENT written on all on Patients Order File.

SOP-
 Patient comes in the department from OPD & IPD on reference.
 First thing to do the entry of demographic data. For the same We
have maintained OPD & IPD registers.
 In that entry of patient details like PRN No, Name, Age & Sex in
the respective record register.

2. POLICY ON PATIENT ASSESSMENT, EXAMINATION &


TREATMENT PLAN
 POLICY:
1. Assessment & Examination should be done by Senior
Physiotherapist.
2. Diagnosis & Treatment Plan should be made by Senior
Physiotherapist & Implement by the Junior Physiotherapist.
SOP-
 After registration of patient Senior Physiotherapist started
examination by history taking.
 After that we shift the patient on assessment bed. Senior
Physiotherapist perform the assessment and special test to
understand the proper diagnosis in view of Physiotherapy aspect.
 After that Senior Physiotherapist make a treatment plan in view of
Short Term Goal & Long Term Goal as per the patient condition.
 Then Junior Physiotherapist follow the orders given by the Senior
Physiotherapist about treatment plan.

3. POLICY ON COUNSELLING
 POLICY:
1. Importance of Physiotherapy Treatment.
2. Patient Education.

SOP-

 After diagnosis of disorder Senior Physiotherapist must inform


about the condition of patient as well as Physiotherapy treatment
plan and its benefits.
 We need to educate the patient about their condition so patient can
understand that how it’s gone a helpful for them.

4. POLICY ON INSTRUCTION
 POLICY:
1. Do’s & Don’t
2. Position, Posture, Comfort & Environment.
SOP-
 Before Teaching exercises or applying any equipment need to
aware patient about Do’s & Don’t.
 As well we need to explain that not to change Position, Posture
while ongoing treatment. Allow freedom to patient to tell about
comfort/discomfort.
 And we need to inform the patients about what changes will takes
place with the environment changes.

5. POLICY ON TEACHING EXERCISES


 POLICY:
1. Demonstration of Exercises.
2. Exercises Chart.
SOP-
 After making a treatment plan Junior Physiotherapist teach the
exercises to the patient under the supervision and guidance of
Senior Physiotherapist first with demonstration.
 Sometimes some patient doesn’t understand the exercises properly
or they do mistakes.
 Then again Junior Physiotherapist teach the exercise until patient
understand perfectly.
 We can also use the Exercise chart for better understand for them.

6. POLICY ON EQUIPMENT USE


 POLICY:
1. Equipment Testing.
2. Precautionary Measures while Using Equipment.
3. Maintenance of Equipment.

SOP-
 First check the electricity board for proper supply.
 Then check the equipment main cable. It has to be properly
inserted.
 After starting of equipment Junior Physiotherapist must stay there
till the treatment is over.
 Explain patient about what they supposed to have a feeling of
Current Pattern / Hot / Cold sensation while equipment application.
 The respective Physiotherapist should maintain the hygiene &
cleanliness of machine after treatment is over. To avoid skin or
other type of infection to next patient.

7. POLICY ON NEXT VISIT / FOLLOWUP


 POLICY:
1. According to Patient Condition / Progress.

SOP-

 According to patient condition we must inform patients to give


next follow-up / visit date should be written on Patient Case Paper.
 According to that we explain all the exercises doses to do at home
also.

8. POLICY ON HOUSE KEEPING


 POLICY:
1. Bedsheets should change on daily basis.
2. Daily Bed sheets send to Laundry for Washing.
3. Floor cleaning on daily basis Twice in a Day.
4. Washroom cleaning on daily basis Twice in a Day.
5. Dusting of Doctor Tables, Gymnasium & Dumbbell’s on daily
basis.
6. Cobweb should be clean once in week.

SOP-

 House Keeping boy from Sodexo should come daily to department


to clean the Consultant Cabin, Floor& Washroom twice in a day.
 They should bring the washed bedsheets from Laundry and send
the dirty bedsheets to Laundry on daily basis.
 They also need to clean at least once in a day the Doctor Table,
Gymnasium & all the exercises related objects.
 Also should to clean the Cobweb & Fan once in a week.

9. WATER PURIFIER
 POLICY:
1. Water Purifier Should get Maintenance in Every 3 Months.

SOP-

 Person should come from Plumbing / Civil Department need to


clean the Filter roll in every 3 months.
 As well Change the RO + UV Kit in every 3 months.

Making patient mentally & physically comfortable by counselling

Instruct the patient about Do's & Don’t while on-going treatment

Application of Respective Modalities/Equipment for treatment under the


supervision of Senior Physiotherapist

Teaching Exercises with Demonstration & Charts

Helping to carry out that how to conduct the exercises session

Discussion & Revision of all exercises with Next Follow-up & Visit
