HOST VEHICLE AND TARGET SPECIFICATIONS

2.1 Introduction

I have selected Activa 3G Scooty for convert it into an electric vehicle. Parameters
for selected petrol vehicle possesses in the table below.

Table 2.1:- Specification of Activa 3G

Engine SI, 4 STROCK, AIR-COOLED

Maximum torque [Nm] 8.83Nm
Engine speed @ maximum torque [rpm] 5500 rpm
Maximum power [HP] 6.82 HP
Maximum power [Kw] 5.086 Kw
Engine speed @ maximum power [rpm] 7500 rpm
Transmission type V-MATIC
Tyre symbol 90/100-10
Vehicle mass (kerb) [kg] 108 Kg
Aerodynamic drag, Cd [-] 0.52
Frontal area, A [m2] 0.407
Top speed [kph] 82kph
Acceleration time 0-100 kph [s] 12 sec

2.2 Frontal Area Calculation of your Vehicle

Formula of calculating frontal area:

Width of vehicle (m) *Length of vehicle (m)*Area (m)
Given data:
Height of vehicle = 1149 mm =1.149 m
Width of vehicle = 710 mm = 0.710 m
So frontal area =1.149*0.71*0.5 = 0.407 m2

CHAPTER-3

CALCULATING TRACTION FORCE

The input data in our calculation is:

Parameters Value

(108*1.05)+100
Vehicle total weight = 213.4
(vehicle kerb weight x mass factor + driver weight**)
0
Vehicle initial speed
80kph = 22.22m/s
Vehicle final speed
0
Vehicle initial time
12
Vehicle final time
217mm= 0.217m
Tire radius*
1
Tire friction coefficient
9.81 m/s2
Gravitational acceleration
Table 3.1:- Input data calculation

3.1 Solve Traction force equations

(Vf -Vi)
Ft = mv *
(tf - ti)
Where:

Ft = Traction force [N]

mv = Total vehicle mass [kg]
Vf = final speed [m/s]
Vi = initial speed [m/s]
tf = final time [sec]
ti = initial time [sec]
Now:-
(22.22 -0)
Ft = 213.14 (12 - 0) = 395.14 ≈ 395 N
So:-
Ft = 395 N

5
3.2 Solve Friction Force equations
Ff = mv*g*μf
Where:
Ff = friction force [N]
mv = mass of vehicle [kg]
g= gravitational acceleration [m/s^2]
μf= friction coefficient (wheel road)
Now:
Ff = 213.4 * 9.81*1 = 2090.90 N
So:
Ff =2090.90 N

3.3 Enter the finalized required torque.

Tt = Ft * rw
Where:
Tt = total traction torque [nm]
Ft = total traction force [N]
rw = wheel radius[m]
Now:
Tt = 395.14 * 0.217 = 85.74[Nm]

So:
Tt = 85.74 [Nm]

6
Battery
Enter values for battery pack configuration below:
● Battery Pack Voltage = 60
● Battery Pack Capacity = 108 [Ah]
● Total Number of Cells Required = 342
● Total number of cells in parallel = 18
● Total number of cells in series = 19
