open your eyes in the morning and see a lot of presents. I feel like a
king. My family comes to my room to sing happy birthday. They watch
me open the presents. Then we eat breakfast together. Guess what I
see in the window? It’s a flag. In Denmark, people put a flag outside
when there is a birthday. Now, everyone in town knows it’s my
birthday.
Sen: Hello, my name is Sen. I’m from Vietnam. My birthday is in March. My
friend’s birthday is in July. My cousin’s birthday is in September. We
have different birthdays. But, in Vietnam, everyone has a birthday
celebration on the same day. It’s a very special day. We put beautiful
flowers on the table. We put lamps near the windows. We get money
from our parents. In the evening, we eat a big supper with chicken, rice
and a big cake. It’s a fun day for everyone.

Claire: We sell fruit like mangoes, oranges and apples. We also sell vegetables
like onions, peppers, carrots and cucumbers.
James: I can buy fruits and vegetables in the supermarket. What is special
about The Forest Food Shop?
Claire: Our food shop is special because we grow all the fruit and vegetables.
We have thousands of trees next to the shop. My father and sisters work
outside. They plant the fruits and vegetables and take care of them. I
sell the fruits and vegetables in the shop.
James: Do you sell other things?
Claire: Yes, we also sell juice. We make apple juice. It’s very sweet. We also
make orange juice and carrot juice.
James: Now I’m thirsty because we are talking about juice.
Claire: I can fix that. I have some apple juice and carrot juice for you and the
pupils to taste. Children love our juices and they love our food shop.
James: Why do they like your food shop?
Claire: Children like the shop because there are many things to do outside.
They can ride
a tractor. They can help my family plant vegetables. It’s fun and
interesting.
James: You’re right. Thank you, Claire, for telling us about your food shop. And
thank you for
the juice.
Claire: You’re welcome. I’ll see you soon at the food shop.

Bella: Hello, my name is Bella. I live with my mother, father and brother,
Max. Max is the youngest in the family. We live in a small city in England.
Max and I are visiting Grandma and Grandpa. They don’t live in a city.
They live on
a mountain.
Grandma is an artist. In April, a man from a newspaper visited Grandma.
He asked a lot of questions. He had a camera. He took pictures of
Grandma’s paintings. In May, we saw Grandma and her paintings in the
newspaper. We saw them on television too. Grandma is famous!
Today, we are climbing Grandma and Grandpa’s mountain. Grandpa and
Max always walk quickly to the top. Grandma and I don’t like to walk
fast. I like to collect colorful leaves while I walk on the mountain. I use
the leaves for art projects. Grandma looks at the beautiful trees on the
mountain and thinks about new ideas for paintings.
When Grandma and I get to the top of the mountain, Grandpa and Max
are waiting. Grandma gives us cookies and fruit to eat. I don’t like
cookies but I eat a lot of fruit.
While we are eating, there is a loud noise behind some trees. We run to
the trees. We find two big birds. They are standing near a pool of water.
One bird has a fish in its mouth. The other bird is making loud noises. I
think it wants some fish too.
We watch the birds for another minute. Then we walk down the mountain
to Grandma and Grandpa’s house. Grandma cooks chicken for dinner
and we go to sleep at 9:00. I can’t wait for another fun day tomorrow.
I love to visit my Grandma and Grandpa.
